Sessional Instructor, Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Applicants are invited from qualified individuals to instruct in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at North Island College. The BSN program is offered in partnership with Vancouver Island University.
This instructional assignment, up to 100%, involves teaching practice course NUR 175: Consolidated Practice Experience I to a cohort of BSN students via a face-to-face delivery method.
Note: Candidates must have current clinical expertise and experience in Adult Medicine, Adult Surgery, Mental Health, Older Adult, and/or Women & Children. The practice settings for this position are located within a Campbell River agency. Applicants need to have access to reliable transportation.
The successful candidate will implement creative strategies in the preparation and delivery of practice activities; use initiative in providing documentation and follow-up with regard to student concerns and problem resolution; and, bring facilitation skills to management of conflict. The schedule for this assignment will be flexible to meet the needs of the program.
The teaching faculty of North Island College are responsible for implementing the College’s vision, goals, and objectives as they relate to teaching and learning. To carry out their teaching assignments, faculty use organizational skills, relational skills, and their knowledge of subject matter, pedagogy, and curricular design. In addition, they have a responsibility to serve as role models for students and colleagues.
Responsibilities and Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse with Bachelor’s Degree.
- Master’s Degree (completed or in progress) preferred. One degree must be in Nursing;
- Experience teaching adults, preferably at the post-secondary level;
- Current registration with BCCNM (inclusive of Criminal Record);
- Current CPR level HCP.
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
- A minimum of full-time two years experience (within the last five years) with expertise in one or more of the following areas of practice: Adult Medicine, Adult Surgery, Mental Health, Older Adults, and/or Women & Children;
- Experience or interest with Indigenous health and/or global health is an asset;
- Experience using a variety of creative and motivating approaches to stimulate learning within a distributed teaching-learning environment and classroom is an asset;
- Ability to demonstrate effective team behaviours, support cooperative and effective working relationships, and contribute to shared team goals;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan and prioritize, and efficiently meet deadlines;
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills;
- Commitment to, and demonstration of evidence-informed practice and scholarly activities;
- Experience with and willingness to learn, online learning management systems, i.e. Kaltura, D2L Brightspace.
- Proficiency in the use of computer applications, the internet, and with MS Office software applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams.
- Valid BC driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
