The Opportunity:
We are looking for a Facilitator to support our Heart Medicine Lodge program. Heart Medicine Lodge is a unique, Indigenous-led program that walks alongside Indigenous women, girls, and female-identifying relatives who have experienced sexual assault or sexual violence. Our work is grounded in culture, safety, and healing.
In this role, you will help create a space where relatives feel supported, heard, and connected to the teachings and practices that guide their healing journey.
What You Will Do:
- Walk alongside relatives who have experienced sexual assault or sexual violence, offering compassionate, culturally grounded support.
- Create and maintain a warm, safe, and welcoming environment where relatives feel respected and supported.
- Help deliver workshops, circles, teachings, and cultural activities focused on sexual health, reproductive justice, consent, and healing.
- Work with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and cultural helpers to arrange ceremonies and ensure cultural safety throughout the program.
- Provide one-on-one and group supports using trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and strengths-based approaches.
- Assist with intake, advocacy, referrals, and connecting relatives to community resources and services.
- Help design, plan, and evaluate program activities so they reflect community needs and cultural teachings.
- Keep clear and respectful documentation, notes, and reports.
- Work collaboratively with the team—supporting others, sharing responsibilities, and contributing to a positive workplace.
- Participate in team meetings, trainings, and opportunities for cultural and professional growth.
What You Bring:
- Deep understanding of sexuality, reproductive justice, sexual violence, and gender-based violence through a trauma-informed lens.
- Experience providing or supporting culturally safe programming for survivors of sexual violence.
- Ability to create safe, open spaces for group dialogue around sensitive topics.
- Post‑secondary education in a related field and at least three (3) years’ experience working in Indigenous communities, or a mix of education, training, and lived experience.
- Experience with facilitating groups, developing and delivering programs, and completing program evaluations.
- Strong teamwork, problem‑solving, and relationship‑building skills.
- Ability to stay organized, manage time well, and juggle multiple responsibilities.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of community resources, advocacy supports, and confidence in helping relatives navigate systems.
- Experience working with Elders, and comfort arranging ceremonies and cultural supports.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365, OneDrive, Teams, and similar software tools.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Clear Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check (within last 6 months)
- Valid Driver’s License and access to reliable vehicle
We are Proud to Offer:
