The Association of Employees of Northern Quebec (AENQ-CSQ), a union affiliated with the CSQ and representing support staff and teachers in the Cree and Kativik school boards, teachers in Atikamekw secondary schools, and daycare workers located in Eeyou Istchee, is seeking a union advisor for a one-year supernumerary position starting on the date of hire.The annual salary ranges from $71,781.43 to $128,743.69, and the position is performed remotely. The advantageous working conditions are those listed in the current collective agreement, but include, but are not limited to, 30 vacation days, 12 paid days off, 15 sick days, etc. The standard workweek is 32.5 hours, working remotely, but the union advisor may be required to travel occasionally. The current team consists of four full-time advisory staff members and three office staff members. The AENQ-CSQ is managed by a seven-person executive committee, but the president is responsible for overseeing the work of the team members.Interested candidates have until November 19, 2025, to submit their applications. We will only contact those whose applications are selected.Nature of the JobThe union advisor performs the following duties and responsibilities:a) Advising all AENQ members on the application of collective agreements, laws and regulations, policies and directives, practices, and programs related to labor relations and human resources activities;b) Representing the AENQ in labor relations matters with its members' employers;c) Producing interpretation and application tools and opinions on laws, regulations, policies, directives, statutes, and collective agreements;d) Interpreting and applying laws, regulations, policies, directives, by-laws, collective agreements, etc.;e) Processing grievances and arbitrations;f) Participating in the preparation of arbitration files and conducting legal research;g) Drafting information documents for members regarding their working conditions;h) pleading in arbitration or before an administrative tribunal;i) participating in the preparation of applications for judicial review by an external resource;j) negotiating and drafting grievance settlements;k) meeting with AENQ members as needed;l) preparing and presenting training to union delegates (or assisting the advisory staff of a federation or the Centrale);m) participating in Executive Committee meetings upon request;n) participating in the AENQ Congress;o) participating in any other body upon request and representing the AENQ;p) acting as a spokesperson at the bargaining tables of AENQ members and, in this regard, performing the following tasks in particular:1. Produce consultation tools or supervise their drafting and compile the results;2. Prepare union demands;3. Produce reports related to negotiations;4. Produce information tools for members;5. Assist or advise the President or the Executive Committee in developing action, communication, or mobilization plans related to negotiations at all relevant bodies;6. Review texts related to negotiations;q) Perform any other related duties required by the AENQ.Sharing of ResponsibilitiesThe sharing of the above-mentioned responsibilities within the advisory staff is decided at a team meeting by the individuals holding this position and an employer representative.Required QualificationsUndergraduate degree in law or industrial relations, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.Other RequirementsThe position requires a good knowledge of office software commonly used at the AENQ, as well as fluency in English and French.PlusKnowledge of the union world and the Indigenous peoples of Northern Quebec (Inuit, Eeyou/Eenou, Atikamekw).
