Overview
VIU is seeking instructors to deliver courses within the Community Mental Health Worker (CMHW) certificate program for courses offered from January 1, 2025 through August 31, 2025.
Duties

- CMHW 110 Community Mental Health Worker 1
- CMHW 111 Community Mental Health Worker II
- CMHW 115 Building Therapeutic Relationships
- CMHW 120 Support Strategies
- CMHW 125 Professional Issues
- CMHW 130 Health Care Basics
- CMHW 135 Addictions and Mental Health Issues
- CMHW 140 Practicum

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success. Successful candidates will participate in activities outside the classroom including student support and department committees.
Required Qualifications
Master's Degree in a relevant health or human services-related field from an appropriately accredited institution and demonstrated experience. An equivalent combination of formal education and directly related experience may be considered.
Extensive knowledge of the skills, knowledge and roles/responsibilities required of Community Mental Health Workers in a variety of institutional, residential, and community environments.
Five years' recent direct experience working in community mental health and/or addictions field, preferably within BC and with knowledge of local/regional resources. Demonstrated skills in educating, mentoring, and training adult learners, preferably in a post-secondary setting.
Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism. Ability to carry out the duties as outlined. Ability to work with a high degree of independence while maintaining working relationships with relevant departments and facilities.
Successful candidates will be responsive to diverse cultural, experiential, and educational backgrounds and learning styles. Proficiency with relevant computer applications.
For Practicum: Ability to travel to practicum sites on Vancouver Island.
Preferred Qualifications
Provincial Instructor Diploma or equivalent.
