We are seeking high‑calibre, experienced candidates to join a fast‑paced, multi‑disciplinary team working on a series of flight‑focused and near‑term space development activities.

Position Description – Mechanical CAD Designer

We are looking for a Mechanical CAD Designer to create and oversee complex 3D CAD models and technical drawings for mechanical systems and components including complex space flight systems, collaborating with engineers, providing design guidance to junior staff, and ensuring designs meet key performance, safety and cost requirements.

Responsibilities

- Design and Modeling: Develop detailed 3D CAD models and technical drawings for mechanical components, assemblies, and systems.

- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with engineers, project managers, and other team members to develop innovative solutions, gather requirements, and support project goals.

- Leadership and Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to junior designers and technicians, sharing expertise and contributing to design strategy and innovation.

- Design Analysis and Validation: Perform calculations, simulations, and analysis to ensure designs meet safety, functionality, cost, and performance standards.

- Manufacturing Support: Coordinate with production staff and fabrication teams to address design questions and provide support during the assembly process.

- Research and Development: Stay up-to-date with advances in mechanical engineering and design technologies and research new concepts to improve designs.

Minimum Qualifications

- CAD Software Proficiency: Expertise in using various computer‑aided design (CAD) software for 2D drafting and 3D modeling.

- Experience with mechanical computer‑aided design software tools, in particular Inventor.

- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, engineering calculations, material properties, and fabrication processes.

- Problem‑Solving: Ability to analyze design challenges and develop creative, effective solutions.

- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical information and collaborate with diverse teams.

- Leadership Experience: Proven ability to lead design projects, mentor junior colleagues, and contribute to team goals.

- Project Management Skills: Experience in managing design projects, including timelines, resources, and deliverables.

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field, with at least five years’ experience with CAD design of increasingly complex systems.

- Experience with requirements management.

- Experience working with customers, subcontractors and vendors in technical and business relationship engagements.

- Highly motivated and able to operate in a fast‑paced small team environment, balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders and working independently to complete multiple project objectives in emerging new space environments.

- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office.

- Deadline oriented with an ability to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.

- Capable of working under pressure to meet time critical deadlines.

- Strong oral and written communication skills.
