Working closely with a team of Nurse Practitioner Leaders reporting to the Acute Care Director, NPs you will be responsible for providing practice leadership to the NPs that serve throughout Fraser Health, acknowledging that Nurse Practitioners are autonomous, collaborative practitioners and that developing role clarity is essential to the effectiveness of interprofessional teams in which NPs function. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Nurse Practitioner Leader with previous experience in Acute Care to join our team and help us elevate our standards of care.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of Nurse Practitioners, providing guidance, support, and professional development.
- Foster role integration and understanding creating a supportive structure for professional practice ensuring adequate opportunities for mentorship, clinical practice feedback, collegial relationships with physicians, and collaborative practice with the interprofessional teams.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and experience.
- Participate in strategic planning and execution of new acute care program implementation in the Health Authority and contribute to the growth and success of our healthcare services.
- Lead the advancement and related change initiatives of professional practice and standards, research, and education, in relation to the Nurse Practitioner role.
- Source, screen and interview NP talent, recommend strategies that attract and retain Nurse Practitioners and that will enable Fraser Health to maximize the potential of the role; visit schools and work with Fraser Health Talent Acquisition.
- Nurse Practitioner duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Current practicing registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCN&M)
- Minimum of three (3) years experience as a Nurse Practitioner, supplemented by five (5) years of clinical practice and educational and/or program development experience in a complex health care environment.
Would you value no weekend shifts with Monday through Friday hours. This is a Permanent Full-Time position based at Central City Tower in Surrey, BC.

Detailed Overview
The Leader, Nurse Practitioner provides practice leadership to the Nurse Practitioners (NPs) that serve throughout Fraser Health, acknowledging that Nurse Practitioners are autonomous, collaborative practitioners and that developing role clarity is essential to the effectiveness of interprofessional teams in which NPs function. Working to foster role integration and understanding, creates a supportive structure for professional practice support that will ensure adequate opportunities for mentorship, clinical practice feedback, collegial relationships with physicians, and collaborative practice within the interprofessional teams. In addition, the Leader, Nurse Practitioner performs Nurse Practitioner duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
1. Establishes a first line of contact for practice issues and, while Nurse Practitioners (NP) are autonomous, collaborative practitioners, acts as the primary contact that will serve to move the NP role further in terms of integration and understanding.
2. Develops and establishes professional practice networks and environments that enhance the sharing of knowledge; works in collaboration with Professional Practice Directors.
3. Develops and implements processes and mechanisms that assess practice and that provides clinical practice feedback to the Nurse Practitioners in compliance with accreditation and professional standards/codes of ethics.
4. Establishes supports for the development of collaborative practice models within the interprofessional teams that serve to clarify the Nurse Practitioner role for both NPs and other health professionals.
5. Develops and implements a professional practice model for Nurse Practitioners including establishing opportunities for mentorship and development of competencies that reflect the unique and varied roles within the health care team.
6. In collaboration with the Regional Department Head and the Chief Nursing Officer, supports a Nurse Practitioner community of practice (Regional Department of Nurse Practitioners) to ensure discussions pertain to effective practice development and continuing education for NPs as individuals and as a professional body.
7. Leads the advancement and related change initiatives of professional practice and standards, research, and education, in relation to the Nurse Practitioner role.
8. Establishes collaborative working relationships with Physicians, Medical Directors, Executive Directors, Directors, and professional staff that impact Nurse Practitioner practice and fosters a solution-focused approach to resolving issues of mutual concern.
9. Liaises with agencies and organization that impact Nurse Practitioners such as educational institutions, the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals, and other health authorities to address common issues and identify emerging trends/issues of practice in relation to NPs.
10. Identifies and recommends strategies that attract and retain Nurse Practitioners and that will enable Fraser Health to maximize the potential of the role; visits schools and works with Fraser Health Recruitment.
11. Performs Nurse Practitioner duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Current practicing registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and a minimum of three (3) years experience as a Nurse Practitioner, supplemented by five (5) years of clinical practice and educational and/or program development experience in a complex health care environment.

- Ability to be innovative and creative in establishing strategies that will enhance and clarify the Nurse Practitioner role.
- Proficiency in the use of personal computers and related technology.
