The Krembil Brain Institute is an internationally recognized neuroscience centre providing excellence in clinical care along with leading edge research and education for health care professionals in all fields from across Canada and around the globe.
The Institute is one of the few priority-focused neuroscience programs in Canada with dedicated staff who are experts in disorders of the brain, spine, and eyes. The Institute’s dedicated inter-professional team, which includes specialist physicians, surgeons, nurses, and allied health and support staff across all program elements, is committed to transforming care through innovative delivery models; integrating basic and clinical research through novel translation strategies; providing system leadership for advancement and innovation, and enabling inter-professional academic excellence and leadership.
Overview
As the Institute’s Program Medical Director, reporting to the University Health Network Chief Medical Officer, and working in a dyadic partnership with the Clinical Vice President, you are the clinical leader of the Neurosciences program (Neurosurgery, Neurology, MSNICU, Ophthalmology) across all sites of the University Health Network which report operationally to you as Program Medical Director. You are a key member of the senior team, working in partnership with the Clinical Vice-Presidents and Program Medical Directors, and have shared responsibility for ensuring that clinical targets and annual operational plans are accomplished. You work collaboratively with other specialty areas including Otolaryngology, Psychiatry, Anesthesia, Physiatry, Imaging, and Critical Care; research institutes, and hospital foundations to enable an environment that will achieve clinical, academic, and scientific excellence.
You, the KBI Research Director and the KBI Clinical Vice President are the Institute’s co-leaders, responsible for developing, enacting, and monitoring the program’s strategic and operational plans aligned with UHN’s strategy and academic mission, and determining clinical, research, and educational priorities and directions. You play an important internal and external relations role, securing the resources and the funds to support new and existing initiatives, increasing the Institute’s profile locally, nationally, and internationally, promoting and celebrating the Institute’s great work and fostering alliances and partnerships with other health care, education, research, and private sector organizations.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the clinical leader of the Neurosciences program across all UHN sites reporting to the Program Medical Director.
- Collaborate with the Clinical Vice Presidents, Program Medical Directors, and other specialty areas to achieve clinical targets and annual operational plans.
- Develop, enact, and monitor the program’s strategic and operational plans aligned with UHN’s strategy and academic mission.
- Determine clinical, research, and educational priorities and directions.
- Secure resources and funding to support new and existing initiatives; promote the Institute’s profile and foster internal and external partnerships.
- Lead and support fundraising efforts as part of overall program growth.
- Foster a culture of trust, collaboration, and interdisciplinary excellence; advance inter-professional leadership and education.
Qualifications
- Highly respected clinician and scientific leader with vision, strategic foresight, passion, and energy to inspire change and excellence.
- Exceptional communicator, collaborator, and relationship-builder with the ability to garner internal and external support.
- Team-oriented leader and consensus-builder with experience recruiting, engaging, training, and developing clinicians and scientists.
- Strong emotional intelligence with interpersonal skills; excellent negotiation, facilitation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience in fundraising, budgetary planning, and operational planning is highly valued.
