Child Protection/Prevention Social Worker
Mi’gmaq Child and Family services of New Brunswick Inc. (MCFSNB) is seeking an individual to join their team as Child Protection/ Prevention Social Worker in the Moncton Area (Indian Island, Bouctouche and Fort Folly First Nation).
As a member of the MCFSNB team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of professional services and programs that focus on child protection. As a Child Protection Social Worker (CP) you will be responsible for accessing, identifying and documenting abuse and neglect cases and finding the appropriate services to enhance child welfare.
CP social workers must be able to identify immediate threats made to a child and provide arrangements that comply with Provincial Legislation and agency procedures. These duties may include, but are not limited to:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interview clients individually, in families, or in groups, to assess their situation and problems and determine the types of services required;
- Provide counsel and therapy to assist clients in developing skills to deal with and resolve their social and personal problems;
- Plan programs of assistance for clients including referral to agencies that provide financial assistance, legal aid, housing, medical treatment and other services, investigate cases of child abuse or neglect and take authorized protective action when necessary;
- Place children in foster care;
- Serve as members on interdisciplinary teams of professionals working with client groups, act as advocates for client groups in the community;
- Lobby for solutions to problems directly affecting client groups;
- Develop prevention and intervention programs to meet community needs, conduct social research and assist in community development.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a registered member in good standing of the NBASW;
- Will be required to undergo a Criminal Record Check & Prior Contact Check prior to appointment;
- Understanding and or the appreciation of Mi’gmaq culture, values, and socio-economic conditions;
- Preference will be given to qualified candidate with Indigenous ancestry.
EXPERIENCE:
CP Social Workers are expected to have a related educational background and clinical experience before they can begin working with families in crisis.
Must have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in child protection.
SALARY:
$1,604.00 to $1,970.40 weekly and a 15% adjustment for those working in protection as well as competitive pension and benefit programs.
Travel throughout assigned communities can be expected for Field Worker positions. Positions will generally be based throughout member communities located in northern and eastern NB. Locations will be determined in consideration of successful candidate’s preferences and the organization needs.
BENEFITS:
- Health and dental benefits: employer pays 80% and employee pays 20%
- Maternity top up is up to 95%
