They will be required to assess an individual's needs and develop a treatment plan. This may include short term counselling and/or referrals to longer term resources and they may need to case manage the coordination of stabilization services to enhance a successful referral to ongoing services. The Addiction Counsellor must be able to recognize the elements of a client in crisis and implement immediate action appropriate to the crisis. This may include assessing for risk of suicide and developing a safety plan. They need to maintain a working knowledge of MHAS internal departments and services, and community resources including the ability to collaborate with and make referrals.Human Resources Exemption: NoEducation Chemical Dependency diploma Licenses Valid Class 5 driver's license Other Education and Training Completed social sciences or human services discipline acceptable to employer Competencies Writing skills Computer skills Communication skills Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge in Transtheoretical model of change Ability to be self-directed, creative, collaborative and to have sound judgement Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team Knowledge of MHAS and SHA philopsohy and objectives Knowledge of motivational interviewing Knowledge in principles for Alcohol and Drug Misuse Services for Saskatchewan Client-centered screening, assessment and recovery planning with adults/families Knowledge of substance abuse/ addictions issues and mental health issues Knowledge of addictions and integrated human service delivery services Knowledge of community programs/services Knowledge of the Mental Health Services Act Ability to work and communicate in a cross cultural setting Other Information For more information on the city of Saskatoon please visit https://www.saskatoon.ca/ Preference to HSAS members as per the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement
