**Duties**:
Transport Canada’s Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Directorate develops standards and regulations, provides oversight, and offers expert advice to promote public safety in the transportation of dangerous goods across all modes in Canada.

What you will be doing:

- Conducting field operations: Perform inspections, audits, and enforcement activities to ensure compliance with the TDG Act.
- Enforcing compliance: Initiate or recommend compliance and enforcement actions for alleged violations of the TDG Act and related regulations and standards.
- Providing guidance: Deliver information sessions and offer technical advice and guidance to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including the public, on TDG oversight programs.
- Supporting program development: Participate in the design, development, and implementation of the TDG regulatory compliance program.
- Collaborating: Join internal and external working groups, project teams, consultation committees, and other initiatives related to dangerous goods safety.
- Facilitating knowledge transfer: Support formal and informal workplace learning through various methods, including job shadowing, coaching, and mentoring.

**Work environment**:
Extensive travel, both locally and regionally, and occasionally nationally, is required for inspection and training activities. Duties will be performed in an office environment, as well as in various indoor and outdoor settings, such as warehouses, cross-dock facilities, airports, manufacturing facilities, hospitals/labs, railyards, waste facilities, etc. as needed.

The duties involve exposure to potential hazards associated with various modes of transportation, extreme environmental conditions (such as dust and noise), adverse weather, rough or uneven terrain, proximity to hazardous substances, and the requirement to wear personal protective equipment and specialized clothing. Due to the nature of the job, satisfactory completion of a pre-employment medical clearance is a condition of employment.

A secondary school diploma or an acceptable* combination of education and experience.
- Acceptable is defined as completion of two (2) years of secondary school and at least five (5) years of work experience related to this position.

Significant* experience in conducting technical inspections or investigations and preparing detailed reports** on findings or non-compliance with legislated or regulatory requirements.
- Significant experience is defined as at least three (3) years of experience and that is a core part of work duties.

Experience working in the dangerous goods industry.
Experience working in a regulatory or oversight environment.
Experience working in the rail industry, specifically in the maintenance of rail equipment or rail emergency response.
Experience working in the aviation industry.
Experience working in marine transportation.
Experience working with motor vehicle carriers.
Experience working in a mechanical field, such as: engineering, licensed trade (e.g. millwright, heavy equipment mechanic), etc.
Experience working in transportation-related research or transportation-related technical environment.
Experience in planning, developing, and delivering awareness sessions or information/guidance materials.
Experience in preparing evidence for court proceedings.
Experience working with safety management systems.
Experience in conducting investigations as it relates to enforcement.
Experience with emergency planning and response, with preference to dangerous goods incidents.
Experience in the design, construction, inspection, or requalification of means of containment for the transportation of dangerous goods.
Experience in risk-based activities such as writing detailed reports of outcomes, completing risk assessments, or using risk results for decision-making.
