**Plant Pathology Summer Associate**

Limagrain Cereals Research Canada (LCRC) is seeking an applicant to fill a 6-month contract position to support plant pathology activities in their plant breeding programs, based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

**Essential duties and responsibilities**:

- Monitor plant health and disease in crop fields, greenhouses, and nurseries.
- Record and report findings on plant health, pest infestation, and disease levels.
- Perform media preparation and stock solutions.
- Follow procedures for plant pathogen increases in a timely manner.
- Maintain records for pathology projects in growth chambers for pulses and cereals.
- Prioritize activities and effective time management across numerous research activities.
- Communicate progress with the Plant Pathologist and Plant Breeders clearly and in a timely manner.
- Cleaning and disinfecting growth chambers and incubators.
- Cleaning, sorting, and storing various growth chamber and pathology supplies and materials.
- As a member of a small breeding station team, participate in most tasks conducted on the station, including greenhouse, field and seed lab breeding activities as required.

**Skills required**:

- Demonstrate problem solving skills.
- Ability to be flexible and modify plans as situations arise minimizing impact on results.

**Qualifications required**:

- A degree or diploma in agriculture or a related field of study experience would be an asset.
- Experience with Microsoft Office 365.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.

**Qualifications preferred**:

- Educational experience in plant science, agronomy, horticulture, or related discipline is desired. Applicants with equivalent job experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Experience with aseptic techniques, plant pathogen isolation and laboratory practices.
- Experience working in an agricultural research setting.
- Experience operating or adjusting small powered equipment or common hand tools.
- Ability to work independently and/or with others and the willingness to participate in all LCRC breeding program duties.

**Salary commensurate with education and experience.**
