The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
The MMF seeks to fill **one full-time Species at Risk (SAR) Project Specialist** position within our **Energy, Infrastructure and Resource Management Department **located at 150 Henry Avenue in **Winnipeg, MB**. The SAR Project Specialist will be responsible for engaging with Red River Métis Citizens to determine SAR priorities, coordinating the SAR file and SAR-related activities for priority species and places.
**_ Job Duties/Competencies:_**
- Ongoing collaboration with partners and external consultants on MMF engagement on SAR priorities;
- Manage information and knowledge gathered from workshops, meetings and interviews;
- Prepare reports based on information gathered from workshops, surveys, and interviews;
- Departmental coordination to determine governmental species at risk priorities and project objectives with summary report to inform future planning;
- Collaborate with external consultants on best approaches to engage Red River Métis Citizens on SAR priorities;
- Engage with Red River Métis Citizens at ongoing wildlife meetings and other outreach activities to broadly understand citizen and harvester concerns and priorities pertaining to SAR;
- Development of Red River Métis Citizen engagement plan based on guidance provided by internal and external partners.
**_ Skills and Qualifications:_**
- A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Studies, Resource Management, and/or equivalent education will be considered;
- Minimum 2 years experience in policy and program development and/or an equivalent combination of experience;
- Experience within an Indigenous organization and/or government is considered an asset;
- Experience in data research, analysis, and presentation, including report writing;
- Experience working with Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Microsoft Office is considered an asset;
- Strong analytical, problem solving, time management and organizational skills;
- Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
- Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
- Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
