**OVERVIEW**

The 2023 World Police & Fire Games Host Organizing Committee is looking to fill the term position of a Coordinator, Volunteer Services.

In less than a year, thousands of the world’s best and brightest Police, Firefighters and Law Enforcement professionals will set their sights on Winnipeg as we host the 2023 World Police & Fire Games. More than 8,500 athletes from across the globe, 150 media, hundreds of VIPs, 500 officials and thousands of visitors will join us for the 10-day event. Featuring 63 sports and numerous cultural events and festivals, the 2023 World Police and Fire Games will be the largest event in Manitoba’s history.

**GENERAL DESCRIPTION**: This role will contribute to the mission of delivering a life-shaping Games experience for athletes and volunteers. By working closely with functional area staff and volunteers, they will work to attract, recruit, engage, retain, orient, schedule, manage and recognize the more than 3,000 volunteers who will be required to support the planning and delivery of the 2023 World
Police & Fire Games.

**GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- To represent the 2023 World Police & Fire Games in a positive, respectful and enthusiastic manner.
- To work within a functional team to accomplish the approved targets and goals within the expected timelines.
- To offer ideas that will improve the ecient and effective delivery of the games and will focus on optimizing the athlete experience.
- Recommend resources needed to accomplish tasks and reach the targets/goals.
- Uphold a high moral character and prudent fiscal management, understanding the majority of funding to host this event is provided by the Public Sector including the Provincial, Federal, and municipal governments.

**MAIN FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Administers the implementation of strategies and plans for volunteer recruitment, orientation, training, management, and recognition.
- Supports the screening, interviewing, selecting, scheduling and accrediting of all Games Volunteers.
- Coordinates community outreach activities to attract and recruit volunteers.Supports the development of profiles and descriptions for all volunteer roles.
- Assists in the development of a volunteer handbook and orientation and training materials.
- Responds to inquiries from volunteer applicants and potential applicants.
- Supports the volunteer registration process, including working within the volunteer database(s).
- Assists with pre-Games events and special projects.
- Contributes volunteer services information for final reports following the Games.
- Ensures follow-up activities related to volunteer services take place.
- Undertakes other duties as assigned by the Volunteer Services Manager, relevant to the furtherance of the goals and objectives of the Games and the position.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Post Secondary education (some university or college studies, a degree or diploma) in volunteer management, recreation management, sport administration, or a related discipline. A combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered.
- Experience organizing volunteers at 2 or more events or with an organization.
- Experience with sports tournaments and competitions in a volunteer or participant capacity is an asset.
- Outstanding planning, organizing and coordination skills.
- Friendly, approachable manner and willingness to contribute and ask questions.
- Excellent verbal, written, electronic and related communication skills and capacities.
- Ability to thrive in a complex environment, involving a multitude of simultaneous and concurrent tasks, operations and requests.
- Ability to work in a team and perform specific tasks independently.
- Understanding of and capability to work within a mixed volunteer and staff planning and delivery model.
- Willingness to work variable hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Previous Games or related experience would be an asset.

**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**
- Formal office hours are 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.; however, flexibility will be required (and given appropriately). This may include various evening/weekend committee work, varying workload/deadlines, Games time requirements, etc.
