**Duties**:
The OSISS program is a national peer support program provided through the joint efforts of the Department of National Defence and Veteran’s Affairs Canada. The OSISS program offers services to Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans, and their families impacted by operational stress injuries. An operational stress injury is not a diagnosis, rather it is a perceived and persistent psychological difficulty that arises due to trauma experienced during military training, or domestic or international operations
Confidential peer support services are provided by professionally trained Peer Support Coordinators (veterans) and Family Peer Support Coordinators (family members of military members or veterans). All OSISS coordinators have lived experience with operational stress injuries and are able to listen, provide guidance, and identify resources that may help others dealing with operational stress injuries. Peer support may be offered on an individual and/ or group basis either in person or virtually.
The OSISS program is designed to assist military members, veterans and their families who are living with an operational stress injury navigate their wellness journey. Peer support connects individuals with an understanding ear, a supportive community of people with similar experiences, help to set goals, and provide effective resources that can help. Breaking down the stigma and providing social support has led many Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans and their families to seek the help they need and change their lives for the better.
**Work environment**:
Together, DND and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) form the largest and most complex organization in Canada. DND's role is to provide services and support to the CAF in their operations and missions at home and abroad. DND and the CAF work side-by-side to fulfill the Government of Canada’s mission to defend Canada and Canadians and contribute to international peace, security and stability efforts.
What do we offer?
