**About Us**:
The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering is one of four Departments in the Faculty of Engineering. Faculty and staff in the Department support and foster the educational and research pursuits of undergraduate and graduate engineering students, while providing the best student experience.

**Responsibilities**:
The Manager, Electronics Shop, ECE Facilities and Laboratories, provides technical and managerial experience that supports the teaching and research objectives of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). The role is responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation and maintenance of the laboratory facilities and equipment/apparatus in the areas of electrical, computer, software and mechatronics engineering, as well as managing the human and material resources of the ECE Electronics Shop to meet the research and teaching needs of faculty and students across the Faculty of Engineering. The Manager will ensure that faculty members, students, and laboratory technicians have the required information, guidance, documentation, and resources required. In addition, the Manager is responsible for the smooth operation and management of the student laboratory facilities and equipment, ensuring the effective delivery of accredited undergraduate programs in the ECE Department. The role will provide effective and efficient management of laboratories in all respects, and ensure that faculty members and students have the required information, guidance, documentation, and resources required. The Manager will act as a point person for health and safety issues, conduct inspections to ensure safe laboratory practices are employed, and assist in the resolution of issues that arise in the laboratories. The role operates and maintains specialized equipment and instrumentation, trains staff, teaching assistants, students and other users of the facility on equipment and instrument operation, participates in the development of protocols, performs laboratory techniques, provides budget support, and orders materials and supplies as required. Furthermore, the role is responsible for providing supervision and work direction to the technical staff within the department.

**Qualifications**:

- Education:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- Completion of, or working towards, Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation
- Master’s Degree is preferred
- Experience:

- 5 years’ experience managing staff in a research laboratory (academic and/or industrial) environment with a focus on quality control, procurement, health and safety and equipment repairs
- Project Management experience, successfully managing large and/or multiple projects required
- Experience with the practical and theoretical aspects of electronics circuitry, electric machines, measurements and instrumentation
- 8 years of experience working in an academic (or industrial) laboratory environment in the areas of electrical engineering, computer engineering, software engineering, or mechatronics engineering is preferred
- Experience managing staff and students and working with faculty and researchers in an academic laboratory environment would be an asset
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- In-depth knowledge of research principles and techniques in their area of specialty
- Familiarity with preventative maintenance techniques and practices with proficiency in operating and trouble-shooting equipment and apparatus in the laboratory
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and other relevant health and safety legislation
- In-depth knowledge and demonstrated ability in equipment repairs
- Strong engineering design background with knowledge of general laboratory procedures and with methods for research design, implementation, and analysis
- Demonstrated ability to research/investigate issues and resolve problems
- Communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users and confidence in dealing with all levels of the organization
- Ability to write clear, concise and accurate procedural documentation
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process sizeable amounts of information with high levels of accuracy
- Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the University’s events and activities
- Ability to provide guidance, support and feedback in
