Andrew Peller Ltd.'s Western Viticulture team is looking for experienced Irrigation & Tractor Operators to assist with maintaining current vineyards and future planting operations in Oliver, BC. Our vineyards are located on the Black Sage Bench and include Black Hills, Tinhorn Creek, and Sandhill vineyards.
This teammate will be responsible for...
- Operate tractors in order to accomplish various vineyard practices, such as disking, moving, spreading, spraying, trimming, etc;
- Calibrate and use agricultural implements such as spray tanks/nozzles and perform necessary adjustment to disks, roto tiller, etc;
- Assist in the planning, scheduling and implementation of daily irrigation programs;
- Implement an effective preventative maintenance program as identified in the annual vineyard plan;
- Assist the Senior Viticulturalist, Senior Vineyard Manager, and Vineyard Manager, in the maintenance of the irrigation system;
- Pre season Maintenance including valve boxes and irrigation infrastructure;
- Housekeeping of pump and vineyard facilities;
- Perform light equipment maintenance as required;
- Field irrigation work such as checking lines, cleaning filters, plugging leaks, replacing emitters, and repairing below ground piping;
- Perform specialized duties within the vineyard such as pruning, tying, suckering/shoot thinning, weeding, wire movement, leaf & fruit thinning, hand harvest, vineyard layout and irrigation installation;
- Assist with various maintenance tasks such as trellis repair, hoeing, drainage repair, erosion control and irrigation repair;
- Assist with the execution of the vineyard plan;
- Safety-follow safe operating procedures, support safety programs and policies to safeguard personal safety, company property, environmental and team member’s safety; and
- Other duties as required.
We are looking for a teammate with...
- Tractor operation experience;
- Sound knowledge of pump operation and associated irrigation controllers including troubleshooting, repair, and operation;
- Horticultural/Irrigation education considered an asset;
- Mechanical skills/equipment maintenance knowledge;
- Ability to adapt to unforeseen constraints of weather, labor and equipment;
- Ability to work a flexible schedule during critical times of the season including early mornings, late evenings, weekends and holidays;
- A positive attitude and one-team mindset;
- The ability to repeatedly lift and carry 50 pounds;
- Valid class 5 BC driver’s license and ability to be insured by company; and
- Must be able to work in Canada without restriction.
