**Diversion Coordinator - Temporary Contract**

**Position Purpose summary**:
Under the guidance of the Housing First Team Lead, the Diversion Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to divert eligible adult men and women from accessing emergency shelter beds. This position requires the assessment of adult men and women seeking shelter for diversion eligibility, the identification of immediate alternate housing arrangements, and the connection of eligible men and women to appropriate services and financial assistance

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Work directly within Community Service Centre, the Emergency Shelters and Isolation Centre
- Work with people who are homeless or near homeless to provide referrals and guidance to assist them in diverting from entering the shelter system.
- Keep statistical information regarding who and how people have been served, etc. Track and report progress and services for everyone receiving diversion assistance and the project as a whole
- Conduct home visits to a limited number of program participants in newly placed housing if required as a follow-up, follow-through.
- Conduct immediate and longer-term follow up to ascertain the effectiveness of diversion
- Develop and maintain productive working relationships with program partners and other community agencies
- Make appropriate supported referrals to housing, health and community services and provide advocacy support services with individuals
- Provide crisis intervention assistance as needed.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education/Certifications**:

- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma/Certificate in a related field or
- Two years’ experience with working with homeless and near homeless adults.

**Experience**:

- Two years working within social services, housing first, detox, addiction treatment centre’s, mental health programs with homeless and near homeless adults.
- Ability to work with diverse groups.
- Ability to work with individuals who present with addiction and mental health issues.
- At least two years’ experience delivering community-based services
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices, motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral techniques
- Experience networking with a range of partners and stakeholders
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of poverty-related issues, trends and services, particularly within, but not limited to the urban Indigenous population

- Understand how to employ de-escalation techniques
- Flexible and adaptable to change
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task
- Works with initiative, commitment and enthusiasm; physically fit
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint)
- Familiar with entering data into databases, such as the Efforts to Outcomes system

**Hours of Work**:
40 Hours a week

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract

**Salary**: $32.00 per hour

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday

**Education**:

- Secondary School (preferred)

**Experience**:

- Working with vulnerable individuals: 2 years (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- Drives Licenses & Clean Abstract (preferred)
