**JOB SUMMARY**
Niagara Region is currently pre-qualifying individuals for System Maintenance opportunities in our Water Wastewater division, Public Works department. Work includes performing routine, preventative and emergency maintenance work on equipment, pumps and tools, general building maintenance as well as operating a regional vehicle. Pre-qualified individuals will be considered for future job opportunities as they become available, whether casual, temporary or permanent.

While on Stand-by, an employee is required to be available at all times and provide a physical response to the work location within sixty (60) minutes of the service call, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

**Location**:Locations vary throughout the Niagara Region. Our main Water & Wastewater treatment facilities are located in Niagara Falls, Fort Erie, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Queenston, Welland, Port Colborne, Crystal Beach, St. Catharines, Port Dalhousie, and Grimsby, in addition to a variety of support stations and facilities.

**Duties**:Employees perform a wide variety of tasks, including:

- Perform maintenance work on equipment, buildings, and grounds within a defined water and wastewater area system
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment and tools, adjusts lubricates, performs oil changes, and maintain associated records
- Perform (and/or assist with) preventative, emergency, and scheduled maintenance to water/wastewater plant or system equipment, including pump units, motors, valves, chemical and small submersible pumps using hand and electrical tools
- Clear screens, tanks, channels and pumps of blockages and other debris using manual and power equipment as necessary
- Complete daily work sheets and requests for materials needed for repair on equipment, including using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
- Remove obstructions from process systems
- Monitor the unloading of various chemicals using safe handling procedures for hazardous materials
- Maintain buildings through plumbing, masonry and carpentry work, sweeping, mopping, waxing, and removing garbage for pickup
- Change light bulbs, check emergency lights, and fire extinguishers, test alarms
- Reset breakers, after electrical awareness training
- Operate Regional vehicle, hoist and crane to lift equipment
- Perform inventory control and requisition requests
- Transport crew, equipment and tools to work sites
- As per season, operates tractor mower and trimmer to cut grass and eliminate weeds; operate snow blower to remove snow. Also rake, and shovel and sand sidewalks
- Clean self-contained breathing apparatus and other safety equipment
- Use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with regulations and procedures
- Assist other maintenance and operational personnel as required

**EDUCATION**:

- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent (GED) is required.
- Post-secondary or continuing education training in a mechanical, electrical, maintenance or industrial maintenance related field is preferred.
- Completion of additional certifications/courses related to water/wastewater operation and treatment would be considered an asset.

**KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE**:

- 1 year of experience in the maintenance of a water/wastewater system and treatment plant and/or similar industrial environment.
