JOB SUMMARY

According to established policies and procedures, and under the general direction of the Wellness Supervisor, assists with the delivery of established resident-centered activity programs such as; creative arts, fitness, music, baking, meal programs, gardening, outings, social events, cognitive programs, one to one visits, group games, sing-a-longs, hymn singing, reminiscence, and discussion groups as included in our calendar. The Recreation Assistant will support residents as they learn new techniques that are adapted to encourage participation and maintain or improve each resident’s abilities, and reports problems and/or changes to supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Preferred 1-year recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience in therapeutic recreation or related discipline.
- Current First Aid/CPR Certificate.
- Criminal check is required.
- Class 4 vehicle license (unrestricted)
- Preferred Carefit Certificate or related fitness instructor training

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Engages residents by connecting with them while encouraging participation in related wellness programs.
- Works with any contractors (under the supervision of the Wellness supervisor) to plan, support and execute programs within the independent community.
- Assists with the promotion of upcoming events while connecting with the events manager in order to do so.
- Works with their supervisor to gradually create diverse programs within the independent community. Expected to plan, prepare, and run programs for Community Life.
- Uses administrative skills to plan and prepare programs. Also assists in monthly calendars and community dinners as needed. Hours may be adjusted if needed for programs (i.e. monthly community dinners).
- Promotes community involvement through liaison with volunteers and organizations, families and friends.
- Prepares areas for activities, maintains recreation equipment, reports unsafe or faulty equipment to the Wellness Supervisor and keeps activity areas safe, clean and tidy.
- Observes and reports any changes in resident’s functional and cognitive behavior to the nurse on duty and the wellness supervisor.
- Reports any witnessed falls or incidents to the care staff and their supervisor.
- Informs LPN in charge and their supervisor and documents any concerns regarding abuse of a resident or staff.
- Performs other duties as required/assigned.
- Works with the Community Life wellness team and supervisor to plan, prepare, and evaluate programs that are needed within Community Life.
- Assists with resident’s participation in activity programs such as arts and crafts, music, sports, active games, social events, cooking, gardening and exercises as directed.

NOTES
- Monday-Friday, 9:00-5:00pm (hours may be adjusted occasionally to accommodate programs).

Pay: $27.92-$29.60 per hour
