The Child Development Consultant provides consultation, support, education and community referrals to support effective parenting and healthy child development and to promote the inclusion of children with extra support needs. This position is currently based at our **EarlyON Centres**.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Plan and facilitate culturally appropriate and inclusive parent/caregiver programs that promote positive adult-child interactions, healthy child development, child guidance techniques and positive parenting strategies.
- Plan and deliver culturally appropriate workshops and educational opportunities that increase parent and caregiver understanding of early learning and children with extra support needs.
- Provide consultation and support to parents and caregivers of children with extra support needs.
- Administer developmental screening and observation of children in consultation with parents.
- Liaise with representatives from the community, the City of Toronto and other groups or individuals who support children with extra support needs and their families.
- Provide consultation to community agencies regarding inclusion, child development, and effective parenting.
- Incorporate evidence based research into practice.
- Provide information and referral to parents and caregivers of children with extra support needs and facilitate access to appropriate community resources.
- Promote the principles of early identification and early intervention to parents, caregivers and program staff; carry out early identification and intervention strategies, such as developmental screenings and specialized programming.
- Provide parent leadership opportunities using a range of strategies such as skill developing workshops, mutual support groups, and parent advisory councils.
- Conduct outreach and liaise with other agencies to reach and meet the needs of families, including high risk/isolated families.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation as required.
- Attend agency staff meetings and training, team meetings and special events.
- Maintain optimal attendance at work.
- Mentor or supervise students and volunteers.
- Perform other tasks as delegated or assigned.
- Work in compliance with all applicable regulations and laws.
- Comply with all Macaulay policies, practices and quality standards.
- Work to further Macaulay’s mission, vision, values and strategic directions.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Early Childhood Education degree/diploma or equivalent with at least five (5) years’ experience working with families and children, including children with extra support needs.
- One year of special needs training is an asset.
- Member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
- Excellent knowledge of research and evidence based program models that promote early learning and inclusion; demonstrated ability to incorporate research based knowledge into program models.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of adult education and ability to provide workshop/training opportunities for adults with a broad range of literacy and parenting skills.
- Advanced knowledge and experience in the areas of child development, child guidance and children with extra support needs.
- Extensive knowledge of the children’s services sector and community based services.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication and listening skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through a variety of techniques for a broad range of audiences.
- Ability to communicate effectively in more than one language a definite asset.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships with parents/guardians/families, colleagues and service providers of diverse backgrounds, abilities and identities.
- Strong understanding of teamwork and the ability to work effectively and contribute to a high performing team.
- Excellent time management skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize.
- Ability to work all shifts: day, evening and weekend hours.
- Valid Ontario Driver’s license and access to a vehicle required.
- Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check.

**SALARY**:Child Development Consultant Salary Scale (starting at 30.10/hour
- $54,788-59,602 per annum) with Competitive Benefits Package (health & dental) and paid time off entitlements (starting at 20 vacation days & 3 float days).**:
