**Program & Job Description**

Step Ahead provides an opportunity for participants to gain skills and knowledge through pre-employment workshops concentrated on career exploration, employment skills development, and personal management skills, such as critical thinking, contingency planning, reliability, etc. Participants will achieve economic independence through individualized support, career and personal development, volunteer and work experience, and mentorship. This program involves a group-based employment skills development component and a paid work placement to support participants’ in reaching career goals.

YWCA Halifax’s Step Ahead Program is an employment program providing women of, 19 or older, an opportunity to achieve the skills and experience necessary to successfully re-enter the workforce, reach their employment goals, and achieve financial stability.

**Role of the Step Ahead Coordinator**

The Step Ahead Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination and administration of YWCA Halifax’s Step Ahead Program including recruitment and intake of program participants, planning curriculum for classroom programs and facilitating modules, building connections with community partners, coordinating work placements, managing program budgets and completing reports, and risk management of program activities.

**Qualifications and Requirements**
- We are looking for individuals with a background in social work, education, case management, life skills training, employment programs, or equivalent.
- You are someone with understanding of program coordination, planning and evaluation in an outcome-based framework, as well as an understanding of trauma-informed practice.
- You are someone who can be self-directed and work independently, but also able to be part of a team. And you are organized with administrative and financial management skills, and have a good level of computer literacy.
- You are able to communicate effectively, both orally and written, and have experience in report writing.
- Experience in group facilitation and conflict resolution are essential, as well as knowledge of labourmarket trends, job development techniques, and employment support strategies.
- A current First Aid and CPR certificateand clear Child Abuse Records, Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector Checks, avalid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle are all necessary.
