- **Job Summary**
The Locksmith is responsible for performing service work and installation, repair and maintenance of locks, door hardware, and the keying system within the campus facilities and buildings. The Locksmith will work on any locking device that utilizes a key to secure.
**Representative Accountabilities**
- Primary Accountabilities_
- Repair, install and adjust manual and automated door locks, locking systems and security devices; door openers, closers, hinge systems and door hardware.
- Install new locks and hardware on doors.
- Install, repair and maintain lockable hardware such as but not limited to, hydraulic closing fixtures, automatic electric doors, lockers and magnetic keying systems to ensure safety of facilities.
- Respond to emergency and routine calls, for repairs and service to door locking systems and door operations.
- Produce and/or modify hardware for locks, disassemble locks, repair and replace worn tumblers, pins, springs, wafers, drivers and other components of a locking system.
- Cut and stamp keys using a variety of key cutting machines.
- Update and maintain information and records.
- General Accountabilities_
- Operate within established security and safety regulations.
- Remain knowledgeable and current with job requirements through participation in courses, instructional seminars and trade shows as required and/or sponsored by the University.
- Communicate with fellow workers, faculty, students, staff and visitors in an appropriate and effective manner.
- In a position of trust, perform job assignments in an efficient and effective manner.
**Qualifications**
- Education_
Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent. Community College or equivalent formal training in locksmith work. Membership in The Association of Ontario Locksmiths.
- Experience_
3 years of related experience
