The **Cancer Systems and Innovation Division** supports initiatives to improve equitable access, to better experiences and outcomes, and to advance reconciliation throughout Canada’s cancer system. The division enables system change with data, research, innovation, and modelling. Work of the division is primarily accomplished through partnerships across Canada to implement evidence-informed and co-developed solutions, encompassing everything from prevention and screening to diagnosis and clinical care through to palliative care and survivorship.

**Overview of role**:
The **Specialist, Scientific & International Engagements** supports the Cancer Systems, Performance & Innovation Division in carrying out projects and initiatives to achieve organizational priorities. Reporting to the Manager, Research & Innovation, the incumbent coordinates and provides support to deliver on program/project objectives. As a highly organized professional with strong time management skills, this position delivers on the tasks of the job while contributing to CPAC’s overall vision to reduce the burden of cancer on all Canadians.

**Core responsibilities and activities**:
**Program and vendor management**:

- Holds accountability for leading all work related to business intelligence for the purpose of improving integration between cancer control and cancer research.

- Leads the planning and execution of the bi-annual Canadian Cancer Research Conference, including oversight and management of the relationship and contract with third-party professional conference organizers.
- Works closely with others (e.g. Canadian Cancer Research Alliance) to understand trends in the funding of cancer research to help identify gaps in knowledge necessary to improve cancer control.
- Contributes to the overall Research and Innovation program and provides input and coverage in additional areas as required.
- Supports the team in the development of the annual work plan and budget, contributes to long-term plans and determines appropriate outcomes to ensure progress against the cancer strategy.

**Competencies**:

While the role overview and accountabilities describe what the successful incumbent will do, the competencies describe how we expect them to do it. The competencies are a key element to how the Partnership measures performance. There are five universal competencies which need to be exhibited by all staff.

**Universal competencies**:

- Inclusion: Contributes to a work environment where all people feel safe, have a sense of belonging, feel valued for their differences, and are empowered to participate and contribute freely.
