**JOB SUMMARY**:

- Under direction of the Cultural Program Manager, the Cultural Support Worker is responsible for organization and coordination that relates to the Cultural department as well as a hybrid of office and relationship-building tasks within Community Development and the Nation as a whole. Like the rest of the Cultural team, the Cultural Support Workers is expected to directly oversee and witness the capacity-building initiatives of Culture, Language, and the Community Development Departments. Admin workers will collaborate in developing the organizational processes the Cultural department faces, including, but not limited to internal and external requests, events and relationship-building, organization of the Nation’s knowledge keepers/elders, cultural workers, elected leadership, and community programming coordination, and professionally develop themselves in organizational and administrative duties.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**:

- Immerse yourself into the Nation’s Cultural capacity building plan and be mentored and developed and, in turn, provide mentorship and manage cultural capacity building programs with students, elders, and the community. This applies to the entire Cultural team.
- Perform office reception and admin duties for Cultural Department
- Create and develop proper organizational tools and practices for collaborative work with external partners, internal collaboration, and coordination with the Cultural Committee and relevant teams.
- Support cultural events, ceremonial planning, as directed, and embracing traditional ways of knowing and doing.
- Coordinate external and internal cultural requests from between departments and external relations, this includes relationship building experience, attending events, and community engagement.
- Coordination includes assisting in documenting, formalizing, and ensuring department protocols, organizing community events, and succession planning for the Cultural department. This is an ongoing team effort in the capacity-building plan.
- Working cohesively with Community development, building relationships with community, leadership, elders, and other departments as necessary

**DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:

- As this position is internally funded, it is preferred to have either a Tsleil-Waututh Nation member or community member or in recognized communities or on community lands to apply.
- Organized and willing to continue to learn in administration work. Will be using excel and other Microsoft software.
- You must not be full-time in school, part-time schooling is welcomed
- Unemployed or underemployed
- Punctual, reliable, positive, and able to work cohesively with a team.
- Strong work ethic, self-motivated, with the ability to work with mínimal supervision;
- Strategic long-term thinking to oversee the growth of the Culture and Language department as well as some degree of cultural competency
- Graduated or expected graduation in high school and desire or intention of post-secondary school in complementary disciplines; combination of formal and informal education, work and lived experience, and cultural knowledge skills will be considered

ADDITIONAL REQUISITES:

- Criminal Record Check (mandatory)
- First Aid Certificate (asset)
- Class 5 Driver’s license (optional)

**REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:

- Excellent organizational skills and reliable;
- Sensitivity and empathy;
- Ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, parents and the community;
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and get along well with others;
- Ability to work independently with demonstrated initiative;
- Some level of social skills as there are constant levels of interaction with all age groups in the community
- Diplomatic skills as there will be levels of relationship-building

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:

- Comfortable working with students and adults of all ages and abilities, in all weather conditions.
- Willing and able to work a physically demanding position and available to work occasional evenings, overnights and weekends.
- May involve sitting at a desk or typing for extended periods of time.

Mental Focus**:

- May deal with children and youth who can, from time to time, be demanding and challenging. Must be able to remain patient and committed to teaching, and may have to engage in conflict resolution or crisis management at times.
- May have to manage/coordinate with a number of projects/events at one time, and may be interrupted frequently to meet the needs of children, youth, elders, and organizations.
