Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Digital Collaboration, the role of the Data Steward is to act as the point of contact for data-related issues within their domain. You will arbitrate and mediate conversations between business and IT, including across domains to promote organizational data quality.
Data Stewards participate in organizational governance activities, have a solid understanding of the data needs of the business, and are the key implementers and enforcers of data policies, processes, procedures and standards set out by the Data Governance Steering Committee.
The Data Steward will take the lead in preventing data quality issues by identifying frequent user errors and working with business units to strengthen user competence. You have a solid domain or cross-domain knowledge of business and data such as processes, rules, requirements, and deficiencies and are the chief problem solver for data issues. This role has a good understanding of the data consumers, usage, lineage, and how data affects business.

**Responsibilities**:
- Strategy and Planning - 60%
Review data governance processes being used periodically to ensure they are still relevant and update and educate where required Monitor data assets against the data governance policies, when deviations are detected work with business on issue resolution
Act as the Subject matter expert for distributing data standards, policies, business and quality rules, processes and procedures to individuals who may be impacted.
Define and set data refresh cycles, and statistical reporting for achieving and maintaining high data quality.
Assist in defining data definitions and business terms. Ensure they are communicated, understood, and used by their business units.
Develop Data models and coordinate the creation and management of data queries in response to business needs - we want these skill sets
Maintain Business Glossary periodically to ensure the business terms are up to date and relevant.

**Work alongside others to**:
Define data procedures, standards and guidelines
Coordinate the placing of data On-Premises, or in Clouds with business strategies
Contribute to and support the data integration strategy and data security strategy
Ensure that project management and software development methodologies include the steps, activities, and deliverables required to achieve high quality data.
Operational Management - 40%
Provide insight into how and where teams can use data to help in day-to-day decision-making.
Understand the usage of data in the business units.
Identify and document regulatory, legal, or other risks, issues, or opportunities around data and provide to the Data Governance Committee.
Identify and ensure the resolution of data quality issues, such as uniqueness, integrity, accuracy, consistency, and completeness, in a cost-effective and timely manner.
Execute audits periodically to ensure that data is properly managed in the Cloud and On-Premises, and that legal or security requirements are consistently being met. This includes reviewing data regulations, policies, and standards are being followed. Identify learning and education opportunities
Perform data profiling on a regular basis and generate data quality statistics. The results of these audits should be communicated to the owner of the data and tied into service level agreements (SLAs) between data entry personnel, IT, and the appropriate business units.
Devise, coordinate, and conduct data-cleansing initiatives based on business value for the purpose of purging and eliminating corrupt or redundant information from corporate databases, in alignment with records management
Identify causes of poor data quality, recommend and support solutions, and communicate findings to employees, management, and stakeholders.
Develop and recommend methods and validation mechanisms for ensuring data quality, and accuracy at the point of entry.
Work collaboratively with the system architect to develop methods for synchronizing data entering company systems from multiple points, and within infrastructure On-Premises and within Clouds.
Conduct research and make recommendations on products, tools, services, protocols, and standards that will support the data management strategy.
