Respite Care Worker

**Child’s Unique Attributes**:
- Enjoys low-pressure activities appropriate for a preschooler
- Functions at a 2- to 4-year-old level
- Is unable to consistently express needs and wants verbally
- Requires constant supervision
- Resists nonpreferred transitions (foreshadowing helps)
- Occasional mild meltdowns
- Is very sensitive to caregiver’s emotions, particularly stress
**Responsibilities**:
- Ensuring child’s safety while parents are away
- Supervising and playing with child
- Taking child for walks and/or to play outside in neighbourhood playgrounds (weather dependent)
- Offering child pre-prepared meals and snacks and ensuring they are consumed safely
- Assisting child with toileting hygiene
- Helping child change clothes
- Giving child pre-dosed medication
- Staying with child while they fall asleep
- Listening for child in case they wake up
**Requirements**:
- Experience caring for children with developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, or that have complex medical issues
- Calm and caring disposition
- Physically able to keep up with a busy child
- CPR/First Aid Certificate (or willing to take a course)
- Vulnerable Sector Police check
- References
- Availability on either Saturday or Sunday from 5 to 11 p.m.
- Ability to commute to downtown Toronto
- Comfortable with a cat (but no pet care required)
**Preferences**:
- Some education in one of the following areas: Applied Behaviour Analysis, Behavioural Science, Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Work, Personal Support Work, Child Psychology, or other related field
- Able to commit to working at least a full year, with planned breaks
- Fully vaccinated for COVID-19
**Job Type**: Part-time
**Salary**: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 6 per week
