**JOB DESCRIPTION**
**Duties**:

- To perform a variety of complex quality assurance and quality control duties pertaining to a range
- of products, equipment or projects. May perform some or all of the duties of the Quality Assurance
- Representative 1 job.- Prepares for complex quality control inspections of a variety of timber products, equipment for

stock items or projects by: a) developing equipment inspection procedures, including review of
- contractor inspection plans for each project assigned for approval by task manager; b) reviewing
- contract/purchase specifications, production schedules and inspection schedules with
- manufacturer to establish mutual understanding of requirements; c) identifying non-conformances
- to determine acceptability of production and test methods; d) reviewing, evaluating and reporting
- on manufacturers’ inspection procedures, capabilities, status with relevant regulating bodies and
- related standards, and organization and facilities for quality control.- Conducts complex inspections to ensure that manufacturing of equipment or timber product,

welding or coatings, is according to specifications, contract requirements and standards by: a)
- determining and reporting on manufacturers’ progress and degree of variation between actual and
- scheduled production; b) reporting production delays, their causes, possible impact on delivery
- dates and recommending remedial measures; c) witnessing manufacturers’ test conduct and
- methods, including examining calibration reports and certificates for conformance to established
- criteria; d) examining test reports to ensure product meets specifications; e) auditing the quality of
- manufacturing and inspecting finished products by referencing sampling plans and using
- techniques to identify defect items and non-conformances; f) reporting unacceptable quality to
- manufacturer and BC Hydro personnel and recommending appropriate actions; g) liaising with
- Engineering and working with manufacturers to determine alternative solutions to manufacturing
- problems affecting production schedules and adherence to specifications; h) recommending and
- witnessing the conduct of tests.- Participates in failure investigations to determine, assess and report on alleged manufacturing
- defects, and discusses incidences and types of defects with the engineering or investigation
- leader.- Maintains liaison with manufacturers to ensure all contract specifications are adhered to, and to

discuss and/or recommend corrective action for various problems that may arise during plant
- inspection, manufacturing and shipping/storage arrangements.- Participates in evaluations of new products and provides recommendations.
- May perform some or all of the duties of the Quality Assurance Representative 1 job.
- Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the

job.**Qualifications**:

- A relevant Diploma of Technology from a recognized Institution of Technology or completion of

an Apprenticeship Program; plus three (3) years of experience in Machine Shop, Fabricating Shop
- or Equipment Manufacture; with one of the following:
- Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certification with five (5) years as a Quality Assurance

Representative 1 or in an equivalent position;- National Association Corrosion Engineer Level 3 and peer review certification (NACE),

completion of Steel Structure Painting Council (SSPC) Lead removal and abatement,
- Containment and Ventilation Courses with five (5) years as a Quality Assurance Representative 1
- or in an equivalent position;- Class A Lumber Grading Ticket from the Canadian Mill Services Association (CMSA) or other

recognized accreditation agency and an Industrial Wood Processing & Management Diploma or
- equivalent from a recognized Institute of Technology with five (5) years as a Quality Assurance
- Representative 1 or in an equivalent position.- Valid BC Driver’s Licence is required.
- Satisfactory performance on the job requires approximately five (5) years to acquire the

knowledge and skills necessary to perform the full scope of the job.
