**JOB SUMMARY**:
You are responsible for providing a range of research, data analysis, project coordination and stakeholder engagement services and support to the Climate Change and Resiliency section.

This includes support for corporate and community plans, programs, projects and policies related to greenhouse gas mitigation, energy efficiency, energy conservation, energy and emissions modelling, renewable energy and storage, building retrofits, electric vehicles, electricity, renewable natural gas, district energy and transportation. You are expected to build resiliency to the changing climate conditions such as higher temperatures, more rainfall and more extreme weather like floods, windstorms, or freezing rain.

**Data Analysis**
The incumbent will support the implementation of the Climate Change Master Plan, specifically as it relates to carbon budget and accounting frameworks, corporate and community greenhouse gas emissions data collection, calculations and inventories, key performance indicators, coordination of the climate lens in the annual budget, and annual reporting. For this position, experience with data analysis and greenhouse gas emissions calculations are considered a strength, as well as researching and communication skills.

**Emerging Programs**
The incumbent will support emerging programs, primarily as they relate to district energy, community heating, and buildings. Early work will involve surveying building owners and residents, investigating government and private projects and programs, and investigating technical developments related to heating energy sources and systems. Work related to municipal buildings such as building retrofits and renewable electricity generation will form a portion of the work as well. Electric Vehicle charging, communications, and general project coordination supports may also be included as needs or opportunities arise. For this position, energy sector knowledge and technical skills are considered a strength, as well as research and communication skills.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:
A 4-year degree in Environmental Science (Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, and Physical Geography), Environmental Studies, Mechanical or Environmental Engineering, Building Science, climate change policy, urban and regional planning, or another related field with coursework in climate change mitigation or adaptation, or energy efficiency, conservation or generation.

Three years of related experience in research, data analysis, program development, delivery and analysis, project management, project evaluation and technical support.

**KNOWLEDGE**:

- Best practices in climate change mitigation or adaptation, and/or energy efficiency, conservation or generation.
- General knowledge of relevant corporate and departmental policies and procedures
- Knowledge of the energy and emissions landscape in Ottawa and Ontario, including energy generation and distribution infrastructure and greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) sources. Knowledge of the provincial regulatory framework and agencies is an asset
- Knowledge of the climate hazards, risks and vulnerabilities in Ottawa and Ontario
