Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) is a unique Indigenous Institute, recognized by community, government, and institutions of higher learning, as a Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Knowledge. SNP offers postsecondary, secondary, trades education and training. SNP has formal partnerships with nine publicly funded Ontario Universities and Colleges and collaborates with six Ontario-based Indigenous owned and controlled post-secondary Institutes.
**Function & Overview**
Reporting to the COO, the Director of Student Affairs provides strategic leadership, planning, development, and administration of a comprehensive array of college-wide policies and services to support and enhance student success while ensuring college strategic goals are met or exceeded. The Director of Student Affairs oversees a variety of functional areas to provide highly integrated, student focused services that support academic success, personal student success, health, and mental well-being. In addition, the Director of Student Affairs is the primary source of advice and consultation on culturally based student services and student-related matters, providing expert advice to college management, faculty and community partners on issues pertaining to student rights, student behaviour (including disruptiveness), student engagement and co-curricular activity, student wellness and student-centered facilities, services and practices. The Director of Student Affairs ensures appropriate liaison with other departments and academic divisions to respond to and coordinate on matters relating to student safety, incident investigations and student behaviour management on and off campus. The Director of Student Affairs is required to perform all duties consistent with the governance values and operating policies of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) while fostering positive relations with staff, students, stakeholders, and the community; contributing to a culturally supportive teaching, learning and work environment consistent with Hodinǫshǫ:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of Ga’nigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind).
**Duties**
The duties of the Director of Student Affairs - include, without limitation:
**Service Assessment, Development and Delivery**
- Providing leadership in identifying, designing, delivering, and implementing a broad range of institution wide student services, including health and counselling, accommodation, cultural programming, orientation, peer tutoring, student engagement, test center and other related services;
- Ensuring that programs and services align with institutional goals through ongoing evaluation and review;
- Participating in and supervising the preparation and recommendation of detailed budgets, including costs estimates, for supervised functions, while managing a diverse range of staffing, partner, and funding models;
- Fostering an effective, collaborative environment to maximize student success and engagement by ensuring processes are in place to solicit input and feedback from students;
- Providing clarification of student service commitments between SNP and partner institutes;
- Tracking KPIs to document Student Affairs initiatives and measure outcomes (recruitment, retention, student evaluations);
- Integrating with other student support areas (e.g. recruitment, admission, financial aid, ) to ensure effective advising throughout student lifecycle;
- Increasing opportunities to obtain and respond to student feedback towards improved student experience;
**Policy, Procedure and Program Development**
- Directing and facilitating the development and implementation of new policies, procedures and programs, ensuring they are aligned with and interdependent on other areas of the institution;
- Directing all aspects of change management, including initial consultations, team/project management, and implementation;
- Determining the appropriate communication processes to involve and inform stakeholders affected by changes;
**Staff Management and Development**
- Maintaining high levels of staff and departmental performance through effective recruitment, selection, performance management, and evaluations;
- Providing professional development opportunities to support staff growth and expertise;
- Facilitating problem solving processes for concerns and/or disputes involving departmental staff;
**Health, Wellness and Accessibility**
- Overseeing Health, Wellness, and Accessibility operations, working collaboratively to identify evolving student needs, and ensuring students have access to internal resources as well as external health and wellness services through cultivated partnerships, as appropriate;
- Developing and maintaining a comprehensive Mental Health strategy tailored for the student population at SNP;
- Enhancing SNP’s strategy to address student accommodations via policy, procedure and resources, including maintenance of applicable data;
