The Public Service Commission (PSC) ensures Alberta has a professional, non-partisan and diverse public service that proudly serves Albertans. The expertise and talent that PSC staff bring to their work is critical to our overall success, as our Ministry is responsible for delivering HR services in all HR functional areas, internal communications, and employee engagement to the Government of Alberta.
APS Communications and Employee Engagement leads internal communications, employee engagement, and diversity and inclusion initiatives for the Alberta Public Service (APS), and leads external communications for the Public Service Commission (PSC).
It supports the President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance, Public Service Commissioner, Deputy Minister of Executive Council, and works closely with Communications and Public Engagement to ensure communications in the APS are coordinated, effective, and aligned. It also oversees the development, delivery and evaluation of APS-wide engagement initiatives that underpin an engaged workforce
**Role Responsibilities**:
We are looking for a communications professional with previous experience managing people, who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You enjoy quick problem solving and decision making, turning challenges into opportunities, providing good communications advice to senior leaders, while mentoring and inspiring your team to reach their potential and deliver excellent outcomes.
Your role as the Director is responsible for overseeing content created for myAPS, government’s internal website; each department’s intranet, functioning as an internal communications tool; Connector Now, government’s internal newsletter; the Manager Monthly publication, the monthly message for the Deputy Minister of Executive Council and department newsletters where applicable.
The position advances the use of technology within the APS to assist in timely and effective communication.
You will lead a team of communications professionals that develops strategic communications plans and products in support of the APS Internal Communications Strategy and teams that support department communications. Your team is the government’s key resource for enterprise-wide corporate employee focused communications ensuring alignment with and advancement of the APS Internal Communications strategy and department-based internal communications for each of the departments in the government. The position contributes to the overall planning of internal communication within the APS and external communications regarding the APS as an employer.

**Qualifications**:
**Minimum Requirement**:
University graduation in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field, supplemented by seven (7) years of related experience. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.
**Assets**:
- Experience in internal or external strategic communications planning and issues management.
- Experience with project management, including multiple projects under tight or competing deadlines.
- Experience preparing a variety of written materials, i.e., articles, speeches, briefing materials.
- Experience with digital and visual communications, including effective web content developm.
- Experience with media relations.
- Strong editing skills and knowledge of Communications Planning Style.
