Be a part of a dynamic team committed to making a difference in the lives of Edmontonians The City of Edmonton is looking for a skilled and passionate Data Analyst to join our Social Development Branch within the Community Services Department. As a key member of the Safe and Healthy Communities Section, you will play a vital role in supporting data-driven decision-making and contribute to the development and implementation of innovative social programs.
In this role, you will be responsible for the collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of various data sets to support the Section's initiatives. You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure data quality, develop visualizations, and provide insights that inform program planning and evaluation. Your expertise in both quantitative and qualitative data analysis will be essential in contributing to the overall success of the Safe and Healthy Communities Section.
**What Will You Do?**
- Contribute to the development and implementation of data strategies aligned with the Section and Branch's goals
- Collect, analyze, and interpret qualitative and quantitative data using a mixed-methods approach
- Develop and maintain data visualizations, dashboards, and reports to communicate trends, patterns, and insights effectively
- Collaborate with the Planning Tech to create data maps and visualizations
- Provide technical expertise and support on data analysis, reporting, and Business Intelligence tools
- Support the integration and data transfer between various systems
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of data governance, management, and reporting processes
- Prepare and deliver presentations to stakeholders on data-related topics
- Stay up-to-date on current data analysis techniques, tools, and best practices
**Qualifications**:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Data & Information Management, Social Sciences, Statistics, or a related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience in data analysis, research, and report writing
**Assets**:
- Certifications in relevant data analysis software (e.g., Tableau, Nvivo, Python, Dedoose, Google Data Studio)
- Experience of performance measurement and corporate/department strategic planning processes
- Knowledge of corporate and department strategic and business planning processes
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent); You may be asked to arrange your own transportation for use while on City business
**Skills Required for Success**:
- Experience in data collection utilizing both virtual and in-person platforms, including expertise in survey design
- Experience with data visualization and analysis tools (Tableau, Socrata, Google Sheets/Studio)
- Proficiency in query writing, statistical analysis, data visualization, and data cleansing
- Experience in business analysis, utilizing various data analysis methods, and data mining techniques
- Ability to analyze data from various systems, identify trends, solve problems, and generate reports
- Understanding of extract, load, and transform tools and other business intelligence and analytics platforms
- Excellent documentation, report writing, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
- Ability to think strategically, work collaboratively, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
Adaptability and willingness to learn new tools and techniques
**Work Environment**:
- This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
