**About Us**:
Providing excellent learning opportunities for all levels of training is an integral part of the Emergency Medicine Program. As part of our education, we provide opportunities to develop our team including medical students, residents, consultants, nursing and allied health. Our research team continues to be productive with local, regional and national contributions.
**Responsibilities**:
The Financial Assistant will be accountable for the implementation of daily financial transactions for the Division of Emergency Medicine in accordance with Western’s financial, payroll, procurement and funding agency policies, procedures and guidelines. The role will provide administrative support to the leaders, residents and students of the Division of Emergency Medicine, as well as financial support to the Emergency Medicine Practice, in order to maintain funding from the Ministry of Health. The Financial Assistant will assist with budget development and financial year end processes, and will serve as a key contact for inquiries from faculty members, staff and students related to financial policies and processes.
**Qualifications**:
**Education**:
- 3 year Community College Diploma in Business Accounting or Business Finance
- Accounting/Business
- Undergraduate degree in Business Administration/Accounting preferred
**Experience**:
- 2 years’ experience in a bookkeeping, financial administration or accounting role; preferably in an academic setting
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of general office procedures
- Knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications as required
- Detail oriented with an ability to process information with high levels of accuracy
- Communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner and adapt communication style to suit the situation and the audience
- Customer service skills with a desire to achieve results in a timely manner
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative and follow through on work assignments
- Proven ability and natural inclination to interact with people in professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
- Ability to provide guidance and support to ensure compliance with processes in a way that is positively received
- Results-oriented with an ability to handle many tasks and maintain a high level of performance
- Ability to understand and effectively communicate internal and external policies, guidelines and practices to stakeholders
- Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office, including spreadsheet design, word processing and database management
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve departmental results
