**Job Summary**
- The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences provides excellent undergraduate programs, as well as advanced instruction at the graduate level. Reporting to the Department Administrator, the Academic Support Technician participates in field trips and field schools and is responsible for a variety of logístical components for field school excursions and supporting the development of GIS-related applied materials or testing of workflows.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Works with course instructors to coordinate and facilitate single-day, multi-day, and multi-week Earth and Environmental Science field trips, including preparation and packing of supplies and equipment, driving and participation on field trips, meal planning and cooking, coordination of field logistics and advising instructors on equipment and support needs.
- Develops and maintains an inventory of department equipment and manages equipment sign-out & sign-in processes.
- Supports GIS software troubleshooting and maintenance, and provides data processing guidance for GIS-related teaching.
- Provides general department technical support including moving samples and furniture as required, updating signage and displays, and first aid supplies.
- Maintains accurate records on all technical equipment and associated maintenance contracts.

**Note**
- The incumbent must be willing to engage in field work in remote areas, including exposure to inclement weather and dust. Additionally, the incumbent must be available to work flexible and irregular hours including overtime, weekends and holidays as required for field work. Scheduling and compensation will be in accordance with the collective agreement.
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

**Required Qualifications**
- Undergraduate degree in Earth or Environmental Sciences or a related discipline with two years’ related experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Demonstrated experience maintaining and/or using rock, plant, water, and soil sample analysis equipment, geochemical equipment, and geophysical equipment and maintaining/using GPS and compass equipment.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining and/or using databases or inventory systems to manage equipment and supplies for field trips and excursions.
- Competency or demonstrated ability to learn office, graphic, and technical software, including GIS programs.
- Ability to lift/move heavy laboratory specimens, equipment, and camping gear up to 50 lbs.
- A valid Class 5 Nova Scotia driver’s license with no restrictions.
- This position requires international travel on occasion so a valid passport is required.

**Assets**
- Professional work experience in geological or environmental private sector and experience managing logistics at remote or semi-remote field camps.
- Completion of wilderness and mental health first aid training is an asset; training will be provided within first three months of hire.
- Familiarity with the ESRI ArcGIS platform.
