**About Our Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Manager of Web, Web Specialist (Computer Services Officer 3) is part of a multidisciplinary team that builds government’s websites. They build new interfaces to help Nova Scotians find, understand, and action program and service content. By drawing from and expanding our design system, they perform web development and content updates to create user-centric, accessible, evidence-based, solutions.

**About You**:
As a part of a multidisciplinary team, in this role you will:

- Analyze business requirements and develop appropriate technical requirements and solutions
- Implement technical solutions, taking responsibility for the quality of code you produce
- Participate in testing, measurement, and evaluation of technical solutions and web products
- Provide high-quality web development, maintenance and support for all departments and agencies
- Support the live operation of the services we run, keeping them accurate and up to date by implementing redirects, archiving old content, identifying and resolving issues or delays
- Build modern web interfaces by researching and incorporating international web standards, drawing from and improving our design system
- Implement patterns and templates to ensure that content is well structured and accessible
- Ensure web pages are optimized for search engines and assistive technologies
- Evaluate and monitor web page performance against critical measures
- Test and troubleshoot to ensure all web pages function as intended and comply with all standard procedures and best practices
- Follow release management plan to ensure projects successfully move from the development environment to the production environment
- Share knowledge of tools and techniques with your wider team, both developers and non-developers
- Ensure compliance with privacy and security standards
- Occasionally collaborate with vendors including resolving project blockers or other barriers.

In addition, as the Web Specialists, you may be called upon to provide advice or support related to the technical implementation and integration of social media as a part of a web project or strategy.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
In addition, you have the following skills and experiences:

- Web development (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, ASP, SQL) including mobile and responsive interfaces
- Ability to create and optimize graphics and documents for the web (Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat)
- Demonstrated understanding of web security
- Developing, customizing, and maintaining CMS platforms (e.g. Drupal, WordPress)
- Git source code management
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Other assets would include knowledge of CI/CD, automated testing, performance optimization and system monitoring

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
