- As the Deputy Chief of Calgary 9-1-1, you will be pivotal to Calgary's emergency response landscape, overseeing the operations, strategy, and leadership that enable effective and coordinated emergency responses. You will set and execute the strategic vision for Calgary 9-1-1, aligning operations with The City's public safety objectives and advancing the center's readiness for future challenges.

Leading a team of over 300 staff, you will foster a culture of continuous improvement, promoting training, growth, and inclusivity in a heavily unionized environment. You will oversee operations to maintain seamless dispatch functions, incident documentation, and officer safety monitoring, holding responsibility for the center's compliance with national standards. Your oversight guarantees Calgary 9-1-1 staff are well-prepared to manage a range of emergencies, from high-pressure crises to routine incidents, with precision and resilience.

In partnership with City business units and partner agencies, you will coordinate efforts across jurisdictions and address shared safety priorities to build a unified emergency response system. You will make critical, real-time decisions to deploy resources, ensuring the center is well-prepared for emergencies.

As a champion of technological advancements, you will drive the integration of new systems to enhance Calgary 9-1-1's resilience and responsiveness. Overseeing policy development and budget management, you will optimize resources while maintaining compliance with local and national standards. By driving innovation and best practices, you'll ensure Calgary 9-1-1 delivers exceptional service, helping shape a safer, more resilient Calgary community.

**Qualifications**
- A completed 2 year diploma in Emergency Communications, Leadership, Business, Criminal Justice, or a related field and at least 10 years of related experience which includes 8 years of demonstrated progressive leadership; OR
- A degree in a similar field and at least 8 years of related experience, including 4 years of progressive leadership.
- Preference will be given to applicants with the following qualifications:

- A background in emergency services, such as 9-1-1 operations or public safety.
- Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) certification, or similar certification.
- Proficiency in Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems and emergency communication technologies.
- Familiarity with police record management systems, CPIC, or similar systems.
- Experience in leading and mentoring teams in high-stress, emergency settings in a highly unionized environment.
