**Job Description**:
Reporting to the Manager, External Relations, the Public Affairs Consultant will play an active role in that vision by supporting the Public Affairs team on all external communication needs, including media relations and issues management. You are a dynamic communicator with a demonstrated ability to work independently as a critical member of the team. You have knowledge and experience developing engaging content for online audiences, including social media, using and navigating social media platforms and analytics. You will directly support and implement communication initiatives and campaigns that meaningfully give voice to our mission to help people live better.

This position will be located at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario and will have flexibility for both remote and in-office work based on our hybrid work model.

Note: this position requires a flexible work schedule, including the ability to work after hours and on weekends

**Responsibilities**:

- Generate written communication for a variety of Extendicare stakeholders targeted at external audiences- Manage workflows related to the creation, approvals and publish of communications materials- Establish trusted relationships with frontline and corporate leadership across Extendicare’s various divisions- Support issues management activities, including attending internal meetings, drafting briefing notes and identifying potential communications-related risks- Support issues management outreach initiatives to partners in government- Maintain key stakeholder relationships with government offices and advocacy associations- Develop and execute social media channel strategies designed to increase follower base, engagement and reach across multiple platforms

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum 5 years of experience in communications- University degree or related experience- Exceptional communication skills - both written and verbal- Very organized, detail oriented and able to keep track of multiple projects- Excellent people and management skills to interact with staff, colleagues and key stakeholders.- Experience managing social media platforms and analytics. Insight into social media trends.- Ability to develop creative and engaging content for external audiences- Media relations experience- Experience in the health care industry and/or in government an asset.
