Housing Readiness Worker

The Homelessness and Housing Help Hub is a day program for individuals experiencing homelessness. The program operates from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, seven days a week. Clients have access to food, clothing, and various support services offered by Housing Information Services and additional Community Partners co-located at the space.
The Housing Readiness Worker (HRW) will:
- Assist clients who present at The Homeless and Housing Help Hub (H4) to ensure they are connected with the right services.
- Divert clients as necessary depending on their housing status, overall needs, and acuity.
- Assist clients who are in need of short-term support through shelter referrals, shelter advocacy, and diversion.
- Triage clients who present to ensure they have been referred appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Provide general information surrounding tenant rights and eviction notices
- Ensure clients are document ready and connected to a Housing Worker when appropriate
**Education**:
- Post-Secondary education, completed through an Accredited Canadian University with a minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Social Science and 2-3 years recent and relevant experience working with vulnerable clients.
- Experience in CHR, BNPL, HIFIS is definitely an asset.
**Work Experience**:
- Capable of working both on own initiative and in a team environment,
- Support clients who are experiencing homelessness
- Working knowledge of the Windsor-Essex By-Names Prioritized List, Coordinated Access.
- Minimum three years’ experience in Project Management.
- Recent and relevant working knowledge of the Social Services, Community Agencies and Housing Related Programs. Current knowledge of best practice models, including: Housing First, Harm Reduction
- Knowledge of housing and homelessness issues in Windsor-Essex preferred.
- Knowledge of CHR, BNPL, and HIFIS
- Knowledge of transitional and permanent housing resources, including social housing and housing with supports, throughout Windsor-Essex.
**Skills**:
- Organizational skills: keep and track data, prepare reports as necessary, and implement new strategies based on data/needs of clients
- Communication skills: in addition to excellent interpersonal skills, strong communication skills with team members, community partner, and clients is required.
- Problem-solving skills: must take initiative to identify and solve problems that arise during project implementation. They must be able to handle unexpected challenges and changes in priorities or schedules.
- Time management skills: must have a strong focus on meeting timelines for projects, and as such they must be able to manage their own time effectively.
- Detail orientation skills: needs to pay close attention to details in order to ensure that all steps of the project are completed on time, accurately, and within budget.
- Computer skills: must be tech-savvy as coordination is often done via project software, team chat apps, etc. Experience with Windows, Excel, Internet as well as experience with standard office equipment is essential.
- Multi-Tasking Skills: Able to deal with frequent change, delays, multiple requests (phone & in-person), high volume of requests, while addressing written tasks, unexpected events etc.
**Work-Related **Considerations**:
**_Policies and Procedures_**_: _ Adheres to all organization policies and procedures and make recommendations where applicable. Able to relate to routine operations in a manner that is consistent with existing solutions to problems; log work activities.
**_Safety: _** Demonstrates skill around personal safety, de-escalation of clients and ability to advocate for responsible harassment free behaviour. Criminal Reference and Vulnerable Sector Checks required. Non-violent Crisis Intervention certification an asset. Updated CPR and First Aid Certification required.
**_Work Environment: _ **The work week will be a minimum of 37.5 hours including availability and flexibility for evening and weekend work as required. Must own effective mode of transportation and a valid Ontario driver’s license. Must provide up-to-date police clearance and proof of insurance and proof of endorsement OPCF6 from automobile insurance company.
