**Job Title**: Public Works Operator

**Summary**: Reporting to the Superintendent of Public works (who is the Operator in Overall Direct Responsible Charge of the wastewater and water utility), the Public Works Operator acts as an assistant and backup to the Superintendent. The duties of this position range from public works duties, and recreational facility maintenance, to water and wastewater operations. Responsibilities in this category will vary depending on experience and certifications obtained by the operator.

**Responsibilities**:

- **Wastewater and Water Utility**_
- Acts as backup to the Operator in Overall Direct Responsible Charge (ODRC) during periods of extended absence.
- Scheduled checks of pumps, plant flows, motors, and related equipment in connection with wells, water pumping and wastewater handling as directed by the ODRC.
- Scheduled water testing, monitoring and maintenance of chemical input and chemical feed equipment, instrument calibration, and SCADA system operation as directed by the ODRC.
- Regular repairs and corrective maintenance of the water/wastewater treatment systems to avoid service interruptions.
- Complete quarterly water meter readings.
- Assist with seasonal water and wastewater system maintenance.
- Assist with water meter installations, replacements, and repairs.
- Periodic hydrant inspection to ensure accessibility and flag marking in winter conditions.
- Assist with hydrant repairs and flushing of hydrants.
- **Public works General**_
- Help maintain a clean and orderly workshop.
- Empty and maintain community waste receptacles as necessary.
- Sidewalk maintenance as needed (including winter snow removal).
- Upkeep of the crosswalk flags, containers & snow removal.
- Snow removal & salting at the community center (Entrances, heat pumps etc.)
- General checks / maintenance at the community center.
- General maintenance to Public Works equipment, mowers, whipper snippers, blowers etc.
- Assist the custodian with Community Centre tasks as directed by Superintendent.
- **Recreation maintenance**_
- Scheduled checks and upkeep of the skating pond, playground, splash pad, trails, etc.
- Mowing, trimming, and clearing brush/leaves etc. in community spaces.
- General upkeep and repairs to all recreation infrastructure and facilities, including but not limited to spring set up, fall takedown and winterization, and lining of sports fields.
- General upkeep of recreation associated buildings and facilities.

**Requirements**:

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Willingness to work towards Water and Wastewater operator certifications.
- Driver's License (Class 5 or higher).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Physical stamina to stand, walk, lift, and carry heavy objects for extended periods of time.

**The following are considered assets**:

- Water and/or wastewater operator certifications (including operator in training)
- Experience operating equipment (e.g. tractors)
- Other certifications / trades / skills that may be applicable to a Public Works environment.
- Experience with SCADA systems / water meter reading devices / other relevant computer technologies
- Public Works / water utility / maintenance experience

**Compensation**:The rate of pay will be determined upon hiring and will be commensurate with experience, education, and relevant certifications.
