**Professional Development Specialist**:
**Primary Purpose**:The purpose of this role is to support the successful career progression of graduate students and postdoctoral scholars which requires broad skill development and ongoing professional development for members of the CGPS community. The incumbent will design, coordinate, and deliver a coherent suite of professional development resources and programming for graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate faculty and work in collaboration with campus partners and external providers to achieve those deliverables. The work is grounded in the recognition that of alumni of CGPS enter a wide range of careers including academic, education, industry, not-for-profit, small business, and government sectors and to be instrumental in developing the provincial and national knowledge-based economy and technology sectors and be leaders as global citizens in addition to becoming future academics.

**Nature of Work**:Reporting to the Dean, College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (CGPS), the Professional Development Specialist will act as the primary point person for coordination and development of professional skills resources for graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate faculty with emphasis on supporting the smooth transition of doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars into the workforce. In this evolving role, the incumbent must maintain broad knowledge of trends in professional development and current offerings through external organizations that are geared toward graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and faculty. The work requires a high degree of independence, resourcefulness, and willingness to take risks to explore new areas for skill development and career planning and innovative modalities for delivery. The incumbent must forge strong relationships to enable successful partnerships with internal units and external agencies. The incumbent will make strategic decisions regarding which areas of require focus and balancing the resources required to deliver programming in-house and the costs associated with external providers. The incumbent will interact with a variety of stakeholders which includes students, postdocs, USask graduate community and various internal (e.g. Library, Office of Research Integrity, and external partners and governing and advising bodies (e.g. CGPS’ Postdoctoral Fellows Advisory Committee, Graduate Academic Affairs Committee).

**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES**:
**Leadership and Strategy**
- Articulates a clear vision for CGPS’s professional development programming
- Exercises sound judgment in prioritizing of opportunities
- Stay up to date with trends and adapting training programs accordingly
- Builds and maintains professional relationships with experts in the field, both internal to USask and externally, to tap into additional resources and knowledge
- Acts as the CGPS lead for collaboration with various support centres that also deliver co-curricular training for graduate students.
- Provides leadership to academic units and works in tandem with point people in departments/schools/colleges to combine co-curricular and curricular embedded professional development opportunities for graduate students.
- Leads ad hoc groups as needed for special projects.
- Develop new programs such as mentorship networks and internship programs.
- Develop proposals for new programs such as mentorship networks and internship programs including pitches to potential external funding agencies and philanthropists.

**Management**
- Creates structured professional development programs, which may include workshops, seminars, courses, and other learning resources.
- Delivers various aspects professional development training relevant for graduate students, postdocs and faculty
- Ensures required training for graduate students and postdocs in academic integrity and responsible conduct of research are up to date and effective.
- Develops and delivers training and resources for faculty on graduate and postdoctoral supervision and mentorship skills
- Manage annual budget development for professional development activities
- Manages scheduling and resource allocation to deliver programs

**Relationships**
- Fosters collaborative and respectful relationships with a wide variety of campus partners and stakeholder groups to build a strong and supportive professional network for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with various internal stakeholders including the GMCTL, Library, Career Services, and many other campus partners.
- External partnership includes but not limited CAPA, GPDN, MITACS, Beyond the Professoriate, CAGS (Canadian Association of Graduate Studies), and Western Canadian Deans of Graduate Studies).
- Build relationships with regional employers and alumni to facilitate programs.

**Analysis and Reporting**
- Provide regular, insightful reporting to college leadership and
