As an Investigator in the Emergency Health Services Division, you will conduct and manage investigations into complaints and incidents, ensuring adherence to the Ambulance Act. Your responsibilities will include examining land and air ambulance services, communication networks, and base hospitals to detect any contraventions of the Ambulance Act, it's regulations and standards as a Provincial Offences Officer. By analyzing collected data, you will play a crucial role in recommending policy and legislative enhancements. **What can I expect to do in this role?**: In this role, you will:
- independently plan, conduct, and participate as a team member on highly sensitive investigations
- handle a caseload of multiple active assignments at various stages in the investigation process at various locations throughout Ontario
- assess the scope of the investigation, determine and gather the evidence
- organize, analyze, preserve, and assess evidence
- develop investigative tools and schedules to ensure complete and timely collection of information and evidence
- conduct interviews and obtain statements from various persons
- investigate both bargaining and non-bargaining members within the Ontario Public Service and/or broader public sector
- provide advice/expertise and work proactively with municipalities and ambulance operators
- liaise with other enforcement and government agencies
- attend court as an agent of the Crown to request adjournments, set trial dates, and where necessary advise the Crown
Please note this position requires frequent travel across the province, and attendance at the site office as required.

**Specialized Knowledge**: You have:
- practical and theoretical expertise in contemporary investigation principles, interviewing techniques, theories, and practices to plan, execute and deliver impartial, accurate and complete investigations
- thorough knowledge and understanding of the structure of ambulance and communication service organizations, duties and responsibilities of paramedics and communications officers, and specific challenges facing ambulance and communication services in Ontario
- an understanding of the judicial process, court procedures, rules of evidence and related legislative requirements
**Legislative Knowledge**: You have:
- knowledge of relevant legislations and regulations (example: Ambulance Act, R.S.O. 1990, Chapter A.19 and investigations-related regulations, the Criminal Code of Canada, the Canada Evidence Act, the Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Act, the Provincial Offences Act, the Personal Health Information Protection Act, the Health Facilities Special orders Act, the Ontario and Canada Evidence Act)
**Communication and Interpersonal Skills**:
- You have excellent written and oral communication skills to conduct investigatory interviews and discussions, explain investigation principles, and effectively manage adversarial/non-complaint witnesses
- You can brief legal counsel, provide evidence and expert testimony in court and assist counsel in court
- You have excellent interpersonal skills to manage diverse relationships, demonstrate tolerance, patience and sensitivity to persons involved in the investigative process
