Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Administration for the McGill Libraries, oversees all the HR operations for both academic and administrative affairs at the McGill Library. The HR Administrator works closely with the HR Advisor and the Director of Administration to develop strategic, short and long term plans and provides leadership and expertise in advancing the HR strategy for the development and implementation of new initiatives in support of the unit’s academic and administrative mission. Develops and implements human resources policies and programs to maximize unit effectiveness; integrate human resources strategy into policy and planning frameworks; promote organizational effectiveness and cultural change.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide support to managers and employees with respect to the day-to-day management of human resources policies and procedures, including academic, non-unionized and unionized groups; the managing of several collective agreements and identification of training and development needs.- Foster and maintain excellent working relationships with the various stakeholders.- Participate in the dissemination and implementation of University personnel policies, programs and procedures throughout the unit.- Partner with the HR Advisor to understand and execute the unit’s human resource and EDI strategy and guiding principles, as they relate to recruitment, retention, compensation practices, organizational policy and work plans.- Monitor compliance of both University and Library regulations, policies and procedures related to the academic affairs portfolio. Acts as a resource person for the various committees of the library.- Support recruitment initiatives. Prepare posting, assist in interviews, administer tests, and verify reference as needed. Participate in onboarding and orientation of new employees. Monitor probationary and trial period.- Assist with all aspects of management salary policy.- Initiate various types of leaves such as maternity/parental leave, leave of absence, and medical leave.- Monitor staff members on work permits. Follow-up to ensure timely completion of work permit renewal documentation.- Ensure maintenance of training records and evaluations for all employees of the unit.- Protects the integrity and confidentiality of the unit’s personnel records and systems.- Compile statistics on management of human resources, produce reports and update documents as required.- Participate in special projects and perform other duties as required.
