**Job**: Chef Instructor

**Organization: Food Discovery Foundation**

**Location: Canada-Calgary and Greater Calgary Area, Alberta**

**Schedule: Part-time. Hours from 5:00pm-9:00pm, 1-2 days per week.**

**Term: January 7th, 2025 - June 30th, 2025**

**Setting: Kitchen**

**Report to**: Director - Jamie Gervais-Rietveld

The Chef Instructor will assist in the implementation of the nutritious cooking programs to children, youth, adults and persons with Down Syndrome. This position helps support all critical business initiatives including promotion of nutrition education, recipe development, customer retention, quality image, and health & nutrition awareness.

**Job Duties**:

- Provide educational cooking classes to children, youth, and adults.
- Interact professionally, friendly and respectfully with parents and children.
- Ensure food sanitation and safety standards are being always followed, including awareness and accommodation of allergies.
- Responsible for purchasing ingredients for cooking programs based on supplied forecast.
- Ensure proper timing and flow of programs.
- Define and reinforce rules and expectations.
- Food preparation and dishwashing
- Set-up and clean-up of cooking classes
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Adjust tasks and activities to support students with disabilities
- Transport and storage of kitchen small wares

**Required Qualifications**:

- Cook's trade certification or equivalent credentials, training and experience (2+ years experience)
- Experience working with children in a professional setting
- Experience teaching in a professional setting
- Food Handlers Certificate
- Red Cross or St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid & CPR certification (May receive anytime before Jan 2025)
- Vulnerable sector screening (May receive anytime before Jan 2025)
- Proficiency in speaking and reading in English Language
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a vehicle.

**Bonus Qualifications (not a requirement, but good to have)**:

- BSc in Education, Psychology, Nutrition and Food Science, Social Work or Equivalent
- Education in nutrition
- Experience working with children with Down Syndrome

The Food Discovery Foundation is a registered nonprofit Alberta company that provides nutrition and food education to children in schools and communities across Alberta.

**Job Types**: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 6 months

Pay: $30.29-$34.91 per hour

Expected hours: 5 - 12 per week

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday
