**What will you do?**
- Assess financial information and classify risk
- Gather information, obtain medical tests, and leverage additional resources (e.g. medical directors, senior underwriters), when needed
- Approve cases within your authority limit, with opportunities to expand your expertise and signing authority through co-signing.
- When decisions are not what the client would want, try to negotiate a better outcome with our reinsurers (in accordance with reinsurance treaties and internal rules)
- Liaise with business leaders and advisors while delivering exceptional service and expertise
- Communicate with financial security advisors and/or clients’ physicians, to deliver critical updates, discuss additional requirements, and explain unique decisions.
- Respond to inquiries from financial advisors and general agents
- Document decisions in underwriting system
- Contribute to a positive team environment through a spirit of innovation, continuous improvement and professional development
- Maintain medical knowledge and stay current on underwriting practices

**What do you need to succeed?**
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience as an Individual Life Underwriter
- Existing Life and Critical Illness signing authorities
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- Analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Influencing and negotiation skills
- Knowledge of medicine and risk factors
- Service-oriented attitude with interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with our internal and external partners
- Proven ability to meet tight deadlines, work under pressure, and prioritize multiple tasks
- Detail oriented
- Strong communication skills with a passion for providing exceptional service to adivsors and clients
- Specialized training: ALU certificate and commitment to ongoing education with a goal of attaining the Fellow, Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) and Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) designations
