**The opportunity**:
The **Program Development Specialist** will be responsible for the development of demand response pilots and programs. Demand response programs are common throughout North America but are relatively new in Nova Scotia. The Program Development Specialist's area of responsibility will be designing programs and pilots for eventual delivery through Efficiency Nova Scotia's Services department.
Examples of the types of programs in scope for pilot development include:
- Demand response via controlled equipment
- Geotargeted demand response and/or demand reduction
- Third-party demand response aggregation service
The individual should have broad familiarity with Demand Side Management programs and measures, including experience in program design, administration, and Measurement and verification, and can easily manage multiple tasks without getting frazzled.
**A snapshot of what you will be involved with**:
- Developing Demand Response programs and pilots per EfficiencyOne's 2023/2025 Demand Side Management Plan
- Identifying resource requirements including:
- Technology
- Staffing
- Third-party, external support, e.g., consultants, service delivery providers
- Establishing program processes required for program delivery and evaluation.
- Providing technical support during the operation of pilots.
- Assessing pilot performance.
- Researching and identifying new Demand Response opportunities.
**What Will Help You Succeed?**
- A bachelor's degree in engineering, a Diploma in a relevant technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Other relevant professional certifications such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP), and Project Management Professional (PMP) would be considered an asset.
- Technical knowledge and aptitude related to electrical utilities and Demand Response.
- Minimum of 2-5 years experience of relevant engineering experience along with project management skills.
- You are proficient with all Microsoft Office software (Excel (advanced proficiency required), Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
- Flexible and have above-average attention to detail combined with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
**What to expect in your first several weeks on the job**:
**In the first week, expect to**:
- Meet the team and learn what Research & Development Engineering and the broader Engineering & Planning team do.
- Learn about current EfficiencyOne' s Demand Response projects.
- Learn about communications and organizational tools and structure, e.g., Teams, SharePoint, Project for the Web
**In the first month, expect to**:
- Familiarize yourself with the various Demand Response delivery models and technologies used throughout the industry.
- Come up to speed on the work done on Demand Response pilots to date.
- Support project teams in a technical capacity as needed.
**In the first three months, expect to**:
- Take a leadership role in the development of the Demand Response programs and pilots.
- Support other areas of the business where DR is a focus, e.g., regulatory matters, and collaborative projects with Nova Scotia Power.
