**Job Summary**:
Are you an experienced writer, editor and communications planner looking for a meaningful new challenge? We are seeking experienced Communications Specialists to lead and support communications plans for priority initiatives that contribute to a high quality of life in one of the fastest-growing communities in Canada. As a strong and savvy communicator, you will work closely with partners across the organization to develop effective messaging for traditional and digital channels to keep residents, businesses and staff informed. You will also serve as part of a collaborative team that is fast-paced, deadline driven and passionate about strategic storytelling, emerging best practices in communications and promoting the Region’s programs and services.
**Duties & Responsibilities**:
- Leads the development of comprehensive, strategic and innovative communications plans to support organizational priorities, including engagement approaches and mechanisms.
- Responsible for the implementation of approved communications plans from start to finish, using strong project management skills; provides regular status updates, keeps contributors and partners on track, monitors performance and proposes solutions to emerging issues.
- Develops communications materials, including media releases and advisories, key messages, website and social media content, print and digital advertisements, blogs, speaking points, FAQs and other editorial content.
- Supports the identification of and response to emerging and sensitive issues; provides crisis communications supports in response to emergencies.
- Contributes to the development of visual content, including but not limited to video scripting, photography selection, and input on graphic design.
- Performs website updates to existing pages and content to ensure content is up to date and relevant, identifying improvements to readability and accessibility.
- Contributes to media relations, including draft responses to media requests, coordinating interviews and providing interview preparation and support for identified spokespersons.
- Supports virtual and in-person public events and media events/photo opportunities; this may include liaising with key participants, preparing speaking points, coordinating with photographers/videographers and providing logístical oversight as needed.
- Develops and maintains strong collaborative relationships with program areas across Halton Region, provides expert counsel regarding communications best practices and approaches, and negotiates with program partners to ensure deliverables are strategic and achievable.
- Provides regular status updates, keeps contributors and partners on track, and proposes solutions to emerging issues.
- Analyzes and reports on plan performance to deliver results-based solutions and adjustments to fine-tune the approach throughout implementation.
- Researches and integrates emerging best practices and innovative strategies for effective and engaging communications.
- Coordinates and oversees the activities of communications consultants and vendors, where applicable.
