Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager Emergency Planning and Programs, the Business Continuity Specialist provides guidance and support in the development maintenance, analysis and sustainability of the corporate emergency management program. As a member of the Corporate Security & Emergency Planning team, the incumbent will have cross functional exposure to all critical business and operational units while delivering business-critical emergency preparedness and readiness activities by supporting the implementation of emergency planning programs, business continuity standards, and preparedness activities across the Company. You will recommend and establish strategies with management and represented employees to ensure corporate preparedness, as well tactically collaborate with emergency management teams to ensure NAV CANADA maintains a readiness posture.

- Key Accountabilities:
- Reviews corporate policies, operational procedures and related regulatory accountabilities to support the implementation of Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and other plans (e.g. emergency response plan) to ensure that the Company is prepared for and can respond to significant disruption to its essential services and functions.
- Develops and facilitates in the delivery of the enterprise wide emergency management training and awareness exercises and supports the planning, design, logistics and facilitation in the discussions and operations-based exercises.
- Facilitates front-line managers and operational staff across the corporation to assist them in implementing policy requirements for emergency planning activities including the completion and maintenance of their business continuity plans, training and tactical exercises.
- Supports the Program Manager in risk analysis by gathering metrics and data related to Emergency Management capacity and capabilities and consults with internal stakeholders to perform impact assessments.
- Provides tactical recommendations to the Program Manager and program governance on emerging trends, developments and external events that enhances the Company’s readiness to respond to an emergency and contributes to operational resilience.
- Attends meetings with Regions and business units to deliver specified training related to incident management, facilitate the implementation of program standards to update operational units business continuity plans.
- Under the direction of Program Manager, researches, analyzes and recommends resource requirements for recovery strategies and improvements to the Company’s emergency response, contingency plans, and business continuity plans.
- You will lead in the development, production, procurement and distribution of emergency preparedness and business continuity tools and resources and in the development and maintenance of related response procedures.
- Assists the Program Manager with the development and implementation of exercise, monitoring, maintenance and awareness strategies for managers and employees on Emergency Planning and Business Continuity Management.
- Prepares after-action exercise / incident reports and develops draft corrective action plans for plan owner approvals. Monitors approved corrective action plans to ensure oversight, support and issue escalation to Program Manager and program governance elements.
- Serves as a support member of the Company’s National Emergency Management Team in the event of significant corporate-wide incident. May serve as support member in other emergency management teams.
- Assigned as lead program resource that supports programs and activities relating to emergency communications including system administration, tactical use, lead trainer, end-user support.
- Scope & Impact- The environment for the scope and impact of the support to decision making is corporate and pertains to the planning, developing and implementation of activities in support of enterprise-wide Emergency Management Program.
- Support and recommendations are associated with implementing program standards that outlines recovery strategy solutions and minimizing impacts to people, information, technology, workplace and critical operations.
- Additionally, the work contributes to the cost-effectiveness (quantitative and qualitative) of the company by minimizing the impact associated with potential incidents.
- Works closely with the management team within all business units, risk teams and represented employees as required on the interpretation of regulations, standards, and procedures to ensure emergency management plans are implemented and maintained across the company.
