Operations and Public Realm Manager

The 17th Avenue Business Improvement Area (BIA) advocates, promotes, builds community, and develops programs that support the business corridor which encompasses more than 40 blocks and supports 730 businesses.
We are dedicated to enhancing community spaces, fostering community engagement, and driving economic growth. Our goal is to create vibrant, inclusive corridor that serves as hub for business, culture, and social interaction.
**Position Overview**:
The Operations & Public Realm Manager will play a pivotal role in supporting our organizational growth and outreach efforts. This position involves managing day-to-day operations, developing and maintaining strategic partnerships, leading public realm projects and identifying opportunities for public realm and safety enhancements, and crime reduction initiatives.
**Responsibilities**:
**1) Operations**:
- Oversee daily operational activities to ensure efficiency and effectiveness
- Develop and implement operational procedures to improve organizational performance.
- Manage budgets, contracts, and vendor relationships to optimize resources and minimize costs.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes and ensure project alignment.
- Develop relationships and create alignment with the businesses in the corridor.
**2)** **Public Realm Development**:
- Lead public realm projects, from planning and design to implementation and evaluation including overseeing the extended patio program and pageantry.
- Collaborate with various City of Calgary departments, community partners, and contractors to create inclusive and accessible public spaces.
- Liaise with businesses regarding crime and safety issues
- Monitor project progress and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and timelines.
- Build relationships with landlords with a focus on empty/for lease spaces/opportunities for business attraction
- Source and manage relationships with public realm contractors and third parties.
**Job qualifications**:
**Essential**:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, social services, or related field
- 4 years of experience minimum is required in operations, business advocacy, or public realm projects. This is not an entry level role; therefore, it is not suitable for students or recent graduates.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for a variety of audiences
- Customer service focused - tenacious about finding and delivering quality results for our internal and external stakeholders
- Must be a creative problem solver who is comfortable building and improving processes and best practices
- Have a growth mindset and are always looking to learn new things
- Highly skilled at juggling multiple projects and task switching
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with CRMs and Mailchimp.
- Passion for supporting small business, community engagement, and creating vibrant public spaces.
- Must possess a strong work ethic and high standards with a “do it right, or don’t do it at all” mentality.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $50,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
