**EXTERNAL POSTING - Relief worker**
Nelson House of Ottawa-Carleton has openings for relief workers(unionized). Rate of pay: $28.12 per hour plus 4% vacation.
**Start Date**: Immediately
**Duties include**:
- crisis intervention with women and children including answering the crisis line
- counselling women including provision of information, resources & referrals
- advocating for women and liaising with community agencies
- maintaining records and documents related to service provision
- participating in updating and maintaining house maintenance and security
**Qualifications/Requirements**:
**Education
- REQUIRED**
- BSW, BA or equivalent with a minimum of two years’ relevant work experience.
Or/
- College Diploma in a related field **with** a minimum of four years’ relevant work experience
Or/
- College Diploma in a related field **with** a minimum of 2 years full time work in a woman’s VAW agency
**Police Record Check**
- Valid Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check must be completed prior to beginning work with Nelson House.
**Other**
- Crisis intervention, counselling training and/or coursework
- Experience working within a feminist framework for crisis intervention and counselling services for women and children’s victims of violence
- Working knowledge of community resources
- Ability to workday, evening, overnights and weekends
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
