Child and Youth Life Skills Worker

**Nature of position**:Permanent, Part-Time
**Compensation**:$27.54

**Hours of Work**:5-10hrs/wk - Shifts typically occur during after school hours: 3pm-5:30pm. Working hours are determined by both worker and client availability and may vary. Availability after school and during school breaks preferred.
**ABOUT SSCS**:
Founded in 1978, Sea to Sky Community Services (SSCS) is one of BC’s most respected and established community service organizations. We operate within a large geographic area - from Pemberton to Britannia Beach - supporting individuals and families living in the Sea to Sky Corridor. We offer 41 programs and services, including early childhood development, childcare, affordable housing, outreach, counselling, family support, seniors and youth services, community living services and respite. We provide a range of services that support our communities and residents through all ages and stages of their lives. Last year, SSCS served 5500 individuals and families in our region.
**Contribution**:
The Child and Youth Life Skills Worker position is designed to function as part of a team, to work with youth with additional needs and their families and other professionals involved with the family on specific goals as outlined in the service plan.
**Qualifications**:
- Minimum Grade 12 with preference given to post secondary education in child development.
- Minimum one year experience working with children/youth with developmental disabilities.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Valid First Aid Certificate.
**Job skills and abilities**:
- Ability to provide suitable activities for the child within the guidelines of the service plan.
- Capable of developing trust relationships with children and their families.
- Good communication skills, written, verbal and non-verbal.
- A commitment to family centred practice.
- Ability to develop accessible community resources.
**Responsibilities**:
A. Program
- Provide a program based on the intellectual, physical, emotional, and social needs of the child.
- Develop an individual service plan for the child based on the identified goals and in collaboration with family, Ministry Social Workers and other community professionals and resources.
- Maintains documentation on goals on agency database and submits updated goal reports to MCFD as requested.
- Work with parents, as required, to promote understanding of the growth and development of their child.
- Value and respect each parent’s ideals, culture, concerns and abilities.
- Work with individual community members, resources and agencies to foster opportunities for inclusion of children with diverse needs.
B. Organization:
- Meet with Manager/Director of Community Living Services as required and keep updated on significant issues.
- Assist Community Living Services Manager/Director with maintenance and revision of Program Operating Manual.
- Meet with Ministry Staff as required.
- Other related duties as required.
