**ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND**

The Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) is a non-profit organization created to focus national attention on mental health issues and to work to improve the health and social outcomes of people living with mental illness.

The Commission is seen as a leader nationally and internationally in several areas. Building upon the work done to date, the core mandate, and the unique position of the Commission, and guided by Changing Directions Changing Lives: The Mental Health Strategy for Canada, the Commission will focus in the areas of, substance use, suicide prevention, population-based initiatives, and engagement. This prioritization will enable the Commission to be successful in meeting its mandate, staying focused, and having a measurable impact for those living with mental illness and their families and caregivers.

**POSITION OVERVIEW**

Reporting to the Manager, Policy and Research, the Program Manager will facilitate projects related to the MHCC’s work in mental health and substance use policy research. This includes projects focused on health equity, integrated mental health and substance use health policy and services, as well as collaborative projects focusing on mental health data, mental health spending, among others. The projects encompass multiple levels, including 1)macro policy research on issues like financing, equity and data, 2) proactive policy research and analysis on emerging issues such as FPT budgets, COVID-19, refugees, climate, and 3) reactive policy support across the MHCC, e.g. speaking notes.

The position involves working with the policy team to create outputs such as policy briefs, and webinars, and to support the work of collaborative policy research projects.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Support the development and implementation of projects and initiatives, drawing on a project management and knowledge mobilization lens.
- Inform and/or lead the development of knowledge products, project management tools, and resources to inform research, policy, and program development.
- Work with diverse project teams to summarize and mobilize research findings.
- Engage other departments to expand the reach of the Policy and Research team’s work.
- Co-manage and maintain a MHSUH Policy Working Group
- Continuously build and enhance relationships with relevant stakeholders.
- Participate in and lead (where appropriate) stakeholder meetings.
- Represent MHCC on national committees and advisory groups.
- Maintain a pulse on current events, public discourse, and stakeholder activities, interests, and progress on issues relating to mental health and substance use health policy research in Canada and internationally.
- Create and implement project workplans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
- Lead day-to-day project management activities including establishing project scope, establishing, and monitoring timelines and budgets, reporting, project related meetings, etc.
- Track expenditures and assist with preparation of annual budgets.
- Assist in stewarding project partnerships via contracts, memorandums of understanding, terms of reference, and contribution agreements.
- Support and/or lead planning and execution of knowledge exchange events, including virtual dialogues, webinars, and forums.
- Prepare conference abstracts and develop/deliver presentations for conferences, workshops, webinars, and other events.
- Prepare regular status reports and other written material (e.g., memos, speaking notes, briefing notes, reports, social media messaging) for internal and external audiences.
